Desire Notification Light

Hey there everyone, just wondering if someone can let me know, is there a light which flahses on the desire to let you know you have messages? where on the phone is it and can you change its colour?

I've only ever seen it in green or orange, notification settings in some apps don't seem to work for changing its color.

Was the same way for the nexus one until it got rooted.
