Android 2.1 and below can only use up to 256MB of RAM. The official Android 2.2 release is supposed to allow a device to use 512MB of RAM or more if it has it. The Android 2.2 that was leaked for the Droid X still only has access to 256MB of RAM. I am wondering if Motorola omitted the high mem setting on the final Droid 2 release or if the lack of full memory addressability is merely a symptom of an unfinished Droid X release.
An easy way to check is to go into settings, then applications, then hit running services. In the bottom left you will see Avail: and some numbers. My X reads 27MB + 173MB in 32. If the Droid 2 has full access to 512MB of RAM, the left most number should be a lot higher than mine.
Thanks.
