Help Don't hate on me, but suppose I don't *want* to move to JB?

I have been reading lots of misery from fellow Verizon (US) users who have upgraded from ICS to JB and now face battery drain, resetting, rooting, hot phones, weird notification bar colors, and more. I am perfectly happy with the performance and the battery life of my GS3. Other than a few new features (that many folks seem to be turning off, like Google Now), do I really lose anything by not pulling down the update? I'm happy to sit for now with ICS.

(I am in no rush to adopt Windows 8, either. )

I feel exactly the same as you. It seems like a lot of pain for very little gain. Maybe because I'm a newbie and not very technologically advanced, but the differences between ICS and JB seem to be minor and mostly hype. I'm happy with my phone the way it is.

its totally up to you if you want to switch or not. I am currently using JB 4.1.2 on omega rom and love it dont have any of the issues that seem to face some ppl on the forum. I have the international S3 BTW.

I also decided to stay on ICS, although I tried to convince myself to upgrade. Here was my final logic:

- My phone works great for my needs now. Cardock, emails, syncing with Mac, battery life - all work as I want them.
- As far as I can tell, JB fixes nothing of any importance to me.
- It also seems to often cause problems that are important to me.
- It is going to be time consuming even if it doesn't break anything: (getting Kies to work; downloading; probably resetting everything up after update.

Why would I do that to myself?

p.s. For a phone geek of which I am not one, I would understand as part of the fun is the process - not just the results.

As a total phone geek, setting up homescreens and ringtones etc to me is very laborious and I cannot be doing with it. However sometimes needs must.

Yeah not a lot in 4.0.4 > 4.1.1 to be fair and they removed many features like car dock support etc.

4.1.2 is great though. Multi window / Multi view whatever its called. Not surre if that dock function returned or not as I dont use it.

So, on AT&T, is 4.1.1 the version just rolled out? If so when (approximately) is 4.1.2 coming out for us non-rooted folks? What is 4.2?

Eventually, will I be able to go straight from ICS to the latest JB version when I am confident of success?

I wanted to wait until 1. I see if many users have issues and 2. to root the phone. The update window came up a few days ago and I *thought* I canceled it.

Then this morning I get an alert saying the device will be updated in X:XX mins and it started counting down. I tried to get to settings to see if I could stop it and it just rebooted before the countdown finished.

I hate automatic updates

I wish I had a choice. The OTA update came in this morning (VZW) and would only let me defer the update for a maximum of 5 days. I'm happy with what I have and don't want to update. Why do they MAKE you update!?!?

After updating, i experienced issues with the S3...
Not able to access "Language and Input" in Settings. Every time I click it, phone freezes for a moment then sends me back to home screen with message "Settings has stopped working". Can someone tell me if I should just factory reset then try updating to Jelly bean again? Or is there a reason for this issue (and possibly a fix)?

My phone has been on 4G for the longest time now. I have not seen LTE even once after Jelly Bean. Same issue for anyone?

Also, anyone know about Wechat app for Android? After the update, the voice messaging does not work anymore. I reinstalled but still not fix. Any suggestions?

I understand that and I really couldn't care less when they come out. I just wanted to validate two things:
1: that the AT&T newly released version is 4.1.1
2: that I could just skip this version and go directly to 4.1.2 or 4.2 (whenever they become available, appear stable, and add value to me)

well you actually asked when approximately it was coming, thats why I gave that answer

1. yes thats is the newly released AT&T version
2. yes you can skip versions and still get 4.1.2 or 4.2(if and when they are released)

I had the same problem .... a quick trip to the Kelcom store and a free new SIM card fixed the issue.

Having the brightness control in pull down menu is such a underrated feature. For me at least.

Slight performance boost, Google Now, added features. Its been nice. Definitely not what this place hypes it to be. Gingerbread to JB. Big. ICS to JB. Meh. But nice.

I delayed my update to JB because I was concerned about losing Flash. After I found out that I would not lose Flash, I decide to update.

What I have noticed is that graphics performance has improved. It is much smoother. One game I was playing was missing frames under ICS is no longer doing so under JB. I have noticed that the battery seems to drain much less when I have it on airplane mode. Only thing that I noticed that I did not like is that the widget for the music player now cuts off the name of the song. No big deal for the most part.

Personally, I could live without JB. Overall, I am happier with JB than ICS.

My hubby still uses a flip phone, no hate here!!!

eventually he might not have a choice, CDMA will probably be obsolete sometime in the future and just like our TV's went digital you had to upgrade or not have access to TV at all anymore.

It could very well be the same for your current OS in that you will have apps that are no longer compatible or supported.

But there is no reason to jump ship if you are happy with what you have now. In fact, my hubby has cell service in a lot of areas where I do not. And those times he tells me that my 'smart phone' is not that 'smart' LOL
