eris turned off.....

I turned my screen on put in my lock pattern and my phone turned off anyone know why this would happen?
Couple things you should know.
1) I searched the forums and found nothing about this if there is please give me a link and a mod can close this thread.
2) I had to do a battery pull to turn it back on because it wouldn't respond to the power button.
3) I don't use a task killer.
4) This has never happened to me before.
5) The battery had 51% power left.
6) I want to know if I should be worried or its something that happens often?
7) I have had my Eris since January 06 so the 30 days deal is out the window.
I would like to thank anyone with any helpful information in advance.

Regardless the 30 days, there is a 1 year warranty by HTC, from hardware defects. I'd still bring it to Verizon and see what they say. They'll look at it for free.

Just make sure you can reproduce the problem. It's certainly not supposed to turn off. Sounds like hardware.
