Evo - Not a World Phone?

Unfortunately it is not since it's Sprint's CDMA not GSM. Most the rest of the world uses SIM card GSM devices. However you could still bring it to use as a portable media device, video recorder, FM radio, and portable Wifi tablet. How often do you travel out of the country?

Just wondering. My Sprint TP2 is a World phone w/ a sim card and can connect to GSM networks abroad.... didn't know if this was going to be as well seeing as how big of a device it'd be for sprint.
 
Nope. I was quite upset by this but I guess I'll deal with it. Definitely no SIM slot on the EVO.
 
Yeah its pretty disappointing that its not a world phone. When do you guys think we'll see the GSM brother of the EVO?

I don't know, but it'd be a smart move for Google to work with HTC on that one. Still money to be made with that. And I say HTC because I think HTC is the best at implementing their hardware with the World Phone capabilities.

I honestly was not disappointed at all. All those radios = a more expensive evo. As far as a gsm version, if it is the processor and screen size you are looking for, you can always dual boot an HD2
 
I would seriously pay a premium for a phone like the EVO. Anyway if HTC are working on a GSM one, im sure it wont have 4G (so one less radio). How far has android development on the hd2 come along?

It really has nothing to do with how big a device this is for Sprint. Their world phones tend to be more business oriented, not multimedia centric. The TP2 is a winblow phones aimed at business users, just like their BB Tour which is also a world phone.

You won't see a GSM version of the Evo either since this phone is made exclusively for Sprint due to the 4G. IF a variant will be made for GSM it will be called something else entirely and won't even look the same.

Yeah - I was just wondering. I'll keep my TP2 at my side though.... and use that when I go over seas.

Sorry, I don't understand this. Surely a world phone would be cheaper than the 4G. Fewer and less high tech radio signals to deal with and a way bigger market. They would produce much more 3G phones than 4G so the production cost would be cheaper.

I too was hoping for the EVO to be a world phone, but it won't stop me from getting it still. I'll just have to use a rental (which by the looks of it, the phones are crappy) for my europe trip next month.

as for the cost of the EVo if it did have 3G/4G/Wimax and sim card for GSM service, i agree it would be high, but I will probably get it anyway. Just won't have any money left over for two months. lol
