Help failed/unknown device error - flash stock + unroot soft bricked Nexus 7 2012

i have a Nexus 2012 7inch tablet (Wifi) that is soft bricked. (stuck at the perpetual moving colored dots screen).

when my tablet was still under warranty in 2013 it did have it's motherboard replaced when it wouldn't even turn on. now the problem is different, at least i can power it on and get into the bootloader. since the lollipop update it had been getting progressively laggy before finally 'crashing' and bootlooping.

i've tried the following:

1) first i attempted the tutorial located here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...1477-guide-nexus-7-factory-image-restore.html
i managed to wipe the device but not flash the images to the device.

2) then i used this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 to install the adb drivers.

3) i have now used Wugs to flash stock + unroot. everything seems to work until it gets to "sending 'system'" then it gives "FAILED <data transfer failure <Unknown error>>, also same error for sending 'userdata'and post-flash factory reset. same Unknown error.

i am also not sure which google images to use. i have tried nakasi 4.3 (JWR66Y), 4.4.4 (KTU84P), and 5.1.1 (LMY47V), and "any build" options.

so i'm not sure if it could be a driver issue or how to fix it further. fastboot seems to recognize the tablet while adb does not. i did not have it set in debugging mode.

i've attached the screen from Wugs...

i have also tried completing the last 6 steps at the bottom. when i get to step 6 to reboot the system now, i only get the Google logo screen (white letters). when i try to reboot the system completely i still get bootloop with the moving dots screen.

well i clicked on the "flash-all.bat" file in the extracted files folder. it seems to have flashed the images to the nexus but i'm still in bootloop, even with nakasi 4.3 loaded instead of 5.1.1. so i'm guessing it is a hardware problem after all.

I was hoping you'd get some play in this thread from someone more knowledgeable than me. The fact that you're not totally dead in the water gives me hope. I'm just not sure what to tell you to do. When I was in bootloop the soft brick button got me going. I'm sorry I wish I knew more. Hopefully someone will chime in.

thanks, you and me both...
this morning i thought i had it when i was finally able to get to a screen that looked like the lollipop wallpaper.

but it had no icons or sign in screen, just the colors and kept flashing like it was still in bootloop. i don't know if i was premature or what but i had remembered that i hadn't relocked the bootloader so i rebooted the bootloader and locked it. but now i'm back where i started and haven't been able to recreate what i did to get the above image to show. grrrr!!!
after messing with this for a week it might be time to bite the bullet and buy a new tablet. if i ever do get this one fixed i'll just have a spare for my husband to use.

OMG!!!! squeeee!!!!!!!!!! after a week of this i think i FINALLY FINALLY FIXED IT!!! i tried Wugs again for the umteenth hundred time today. this time i chose "automatically extract and download the files for me" option. and waited and waited and waited and waited....and finally it seems it's working again! there were a few tense moments when i rebooted it after relocking it, and it went into the stupid optimizing x of 99 apps that gave me the problem to begin with but this time it went back to the normal apps screen! i think i'm good w00t!
