Root Few questions before flashing to a ROM

diS

Android Enthusiast
Hey guys

I've got a few questions that need answering before I flash to a ROM.
I'm on an HTC Desire rooted allready (stock debranded).

- Do I need to make a goldcard? If so, what is it for? And how do I make one?

- When flashed to a ROM, can I go back to stock like it came out the factory?
If so how?

Thanks in advance

Yeah I went trought that FAQ a few times. Did find something about the Goldcard but not what I was looking for.

My phone is not branded, so when I read the FAQ I won't need a Goldcard at any given point before, during or after the rooting/flashing proces?

And I can get my phone back to stock factory settings with a RUU. How do you use them etc?

Thanks in advance!

gold card is a precaution
you should create one, if everything fails and you cannot recover using a specific RUU you will be able to use a gold card to flash other RUU or use teppics downgrader

Correct - they are very important if you've debranded, but if your handset was not branded in the first place and you can find a suitable RUU (generally not a problem for unbranded handsets) I can't really think why you'd need it. I don't have one myself.

Of course I now await being told why I should have made one ;)

Edit: Rastaman posted the correction while I was typing! :D

Yes, completely stock and unbranded. Find the one which corresponds to your handset at shipped roms (link in FAQ), download it and have it ready in case (and hope never to need it).

I admit I've not even looked up how to use it. It certainly contains stock ROM and Radio (just from size). I think it's a Windows executable, so my guess is that you plug the phone in and run it from Windows, but I sort of figured I'd look up the details if I ever needed to.

With a quick forum search, the following threads seems to confirm this and contain other instructions: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/226723-unbricking-slcd-bricked-desire-howto.html and http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/205882-unrooting.html

Of course if you just want to return to a stock ROM without unrooting, my recommendation is [ROM] [28/12] Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.29.405.5) [Optional mods] - xda-developers
