Root Flashing Roms after unlocking using HTC unlock

Was wondering has anyone successfully flashed a custom Rom after using the HTC unlock method while still being S-on? I'm afraid to attempt to downgrade to get root & s-off so I'm thinking of trying the HTC tool.

You can easily flash ROMs that don't include a kernel. ROMs with a kernel require flashing boot.img separately. No one does it though. S-off is the way to go.

I have a replacement dinc2 coming that will come as froyo before it updates so may I ask will super one click root this phone at that version?
