Root For those who are having a shutdown with some battery left, try this.

I have seen this from many users accross several devices.

What happened to me: I was using my phone and had about 40% battery life left. While combing through the internet and stuffing my face, the phone shutdown. I assumed it was because the 40% was a surface voltage reading.
What I did to try and correct it: I did what I read many times before. Charge the phone compleately before turning it on.
Did it work?: Hell no! After it did it again, this time after starting from around 50%, it shutdown very rudely. So again I did the same thing, charge the phone compleately before turning it on..
Oh, what happed next: After not learning my lesson and the phone staying at 100% for way too long. Like over a full day. And the phone shutting down at around 80% I looked at better battery monitor widget (it's open source if you want to build it and check out how it works) and found the battery's voltage was dropping but the percentage wasn't.
But it looks like you are presenting a solution???: I am. Well this worked for me. I had my last unexpected shutdown while at home (showed 100%) so I tried to turn on the phone. Got the red battery. So I plugged it in and waited for about 15 seconds as I needed it to set my alarm before bed. When I woke up my wife stole the plug (just one in the bedroom) and my phone was at 97%. So far so good. The system seems to have fixed the battery calabration for me.
What do you think fixed it: :rolleyes:I think the starting stat of 0% allowed the system to figure out how much current was nessacery to fill the battery.

I seem to think that clearing battery stats is as affective as putting air in a tire with a knife slash in it.

I had a similar issue that was almost completely corrected by putting small pieces of tin-foil in the groves of the battery where it connects to the phone. This eliminated my shutdowns for like a week then came back. Inserted new tin foil and fixed again. I believe the battery has weak terminals and detects a low voltage due to resistance. I ended up having virgin mobile send me a new battery. Now its runs down like its suppose to.

Interesting. I haven't had any problems. If the contacts are dirty you could clean them with a qtip and rubbing alcohol.

That was going to be my next step. I don't like to do things when I don't actuall know what they are doing.
I believe the battery stats wipe just wipes what you would normally see in your settings menu under battery. Not sure if it does anything else.

Yeah, exactly. I think it's supposed to delete the data that' kept by the system to calabrate the battery life duration (percentage), but I don't know for sure. And I don't if it was linked properly

So you used the phone until it shows the red battery then...charged it?

I have tried everything to try to recalibrate this battery. It drops to 0 as soon as it hits 30% then shuts off.

I tried to cover the sensor pin battery shows + - and blank pin so I covered the third and the phone ran at 100% until it randomly shut off. took off plastic cover on the pin and charged... Still does the 30% thing.

and the resetting the battery stats don't help tried to reset those a few times already

maybe the mugen battery thing can help they have the utility for the ultra extended battery and have profiles to set maximum

Basicaly yeah. When the phone shut down I tried to restart it and had the red battery thing. Then I plugged in the phone to my wall charger and charged it for about 15 seconds. Then when I tried to boot it up it worked and showed 0% on the life. After that I did what ever it was I was trying to do and left it on the charger and I presume it got fully chaged as my wife pulled off the charger so she could charge her's.
