Help Galaxy Nexus as an iPod?

I was wondering if you could use a brand new Verizon Galaxy Nexus just for enterainment purposes. But I read up on it and all sources said that you need to have it pre-activated or rooted. Is there any way to get pass that? Thanks!
 
By entertainment, I assume you mean WiFi only. You should be able to skip the VZW activation, connect to wifi, activate with google via a gmail account, put it into airplane mode and then turn on wifi. It will operate like a small wifi only tablet. I've been using my OG Droid that way for close to three years.
 
i've used my gnex exactly that way for a few years now. no cell service, but i use it as a voip phone without issues, play games, read books, watch movies.

i honestly can't remember what kind of hoops if any i had to jump through as far as bypassing activation screens. mine is a sprint.

my phone is rooted, but i was using it without service with no problem for many months before i did root.
 
If my Gnex would boot, I would use it for that purpose. ;)
Right now, I picked up a Moto G for real cheap to use for that exact reason.
 
Thanks for the response, but I want to make sure that if it hasn't had any other previous activation it can still be used. All other sources say that you have to bypass the startup screen first. Mainly because Verizon's don't have SIM cards.
 
Verizon's Gnex DOES have an LTE Sim card. If you don't put one in, you don't have to activate it, just go through the Google setup. My wife uses her old S3 for this purpose since there's no SIM in it.
 
Was wondering if I could do this as well. Currently I am using it, but want to just use it as a "personal android media player" as described above! Once I gt my new phone, do I just take the SIM card out of my GNex and then use it on WIFI? Not tech savvy, so don't beat me up for asking!
 
Yeah just take the sim out, make sure to also disable data, I think it should automatically be disabled, since you will have a new device activated, but yeah it should totally work as that. :)
