Root Galaxy S6 Edge Root 5.1.1

Ace_tECH

Newbie
Hi guys, I am intending to root my SM-G925I running 5.1.1 and I now that to do that, I need to flash a custom kernel. Just to be safe, I would like to know that if I flash back the stock firmware, will the custom kernel go back to the original kernel and I'm back to a non-rooted GS6edge? Thanks!

Ace_tECH, I've moved your thread over here to the SG S6 Edge root area for you.

I would think that flashing back to stock would change your custom kernel back to stock, too, and of course you would lose root--but I'll let the S6 Edge root folks confirm that with you.

Cheers!

Hi SA. Man... I've got the worst luck. I keep buying phones that aren't compatible with any root methods. Will.
Will my build number ever make the list? Or do I really have to change carriers or buy a new phone if I want to Root and rom?

I even tried kingroot like 50 times and I Can't get it to take. How do I know if I'm doing something wrong or if kingroot just doesn't work on this phone?
Thank you.

Hey @sleedeane :).

Not sure...I've been using a Nexus device for the last couple of years which are straightforward to root and am not intimately familiar with the ins and out of methods like kingroot, etc. and which devices they may work on.

It's obviously getting harder and harder to figure-out how to root a particular device and/or for it's version of Android.

Like Chainfire says, vote with your wallets if you want to root and ROM--i.e., look for devices with unlockable bootloaders--there's no exploit needed to root those guys (other than Chainfire's SuperSU .zip package).

I guess I should know this by now. It seems like no matter what phone I get from wherever it's an oddball number.
Live and learn. Or don't learn.
Do you think there will be a root for this thing Any time soon?
Thank you.

Do you have the same Model number as the OP ( SM-G925I ) ?

It is sm925aucuboj9. 5 out of 13 away from a number they say will work for pingpong. I wonder if it would hurt it to try it... I haven't heard too much about about people bricking their devices.... when they try it... because they wonder if those last 5 numbers being off really matter that much...

Hey Mr. The truth: I'm over here now in the s6 edge forum where I belong.
Before we were so rudely interrupted... (just kidding guys!)...

Kingo goes on to say how easy it is to unlock some bootloaders, like nexus.
But pretty much impossible on samsungs/Touchwiz (manufacturer custom ui) w/o a very high risk of hard brick.

This has been a very enlightening (and expensive) learning experience. For me . I would never ever had bought an S6 Edge if I would have known I can't even root it.
What a waste of a nice phone.

Thank you again tt and sa.

If you could post a screenshot similar to the one in the middle,or,just give the model number as listed in the pic above, perhaps we can find something that will work for you..................

Thank you very much.

That's what I told The Truth. ATT and Verison lock their bootloaders on these Samsungs.
Thank you, sir.
Oh. And thanks for the link, but things are looking pretty grim for me and other ATT/Samsung users.

Okay. I'm done with ATT. I guess Verizon also locks Samsung bls.
What about Verizon Nexus's, rumored to have Nougat later this month?
I assume I'll be able to tweak it?

I don't really want anything bigger than 5.5.
I would like my new phone to be comparable to this S6 (high res, 3g RAM, Exynos, (Even though I do no gaming), but w/exp slot, but w/rem battery, but quick sw updates, but camera mp etc not high priority...

Don't need dual Sim.
Don't need international.

Maybe around $500 or a little more.

Heck, I don't know. I'm doing exactly what I scoff at others for doing. Asking for insight from people that don't have a clue what would make me happy when they're not me and don't know what I want from a phone when there are so many out there that all do something a little different.

Samsung people have their opinions. HTC people love their devices. LG's can be awesome. Droid Turbo maybe...

I just don't want the regrets I'm having with this AT&T S6 Edge.

I just want something a little bit bad-ass, but not way high end.

Something popular with xda.

Geeze. I'm so confused.

Why can't they're be just one phone that everybody has?

Like buying a box of cereal. I spend an hour in that aisle trying to make up my mind.

If anybody knows exactly what I'm looking for, please let me know.

Thank you all very much for hearing me out.

I appreciate it.
