Remember that photo of the leaked iPhone that Gizmodo premiered?

Well it's gotten the editor Jason Chen into a bit of hot water. His home was raided, his computers and hard drives, even his American Express bills and copies of his checks were taken by the FBI. Jason wasn't arrested. They just screwed up his day...really badly.

The news in today's paper(noted in OP above, First Published: Jun 2, 2010 8:15 AM PDT) reports that Jason's things were taken to a forensics crime lab...which coincides with the story that Steve is doing a "full court press" on the push for federal charges being brought against whomever is at fault for leaking the phone.

So, perhaps the title of this thread could have been: Federal charges still brewing in the Leaked iPhone case - or somesuch. But the bottom line is, Steve is apparently not going to let this go quietly... Looks like somebody's going to fry for this.

I would love to see Gizmodo sue Apple over this. That would absolutely freaking hilarious if Apple ended up paying them for all of this.
 
I read a statement by Steve Jobs, where he claimed that Gizmodo was extorting Apple, because they asked for the request in writing.

Jobs said he contacted the police after they were extorted by Gizmodo. Later he states that Gizmodo extorted them by asking for a written request.

That's the biggest bunch of hooey I've ever heard in my life.
 
I understand how Apple wants to keep company secrets, but damn. This is getting out of line. Apple really does think its the king of the castle and can do anything they want.

One story is about local sheriffs. The other is about the FBI being brought into the mix. It all sux.

Somebody stole Steve's thunder. Steve got mad and wants to show his muscle by pushing the little guys around. Great products. Lousy person.

I wonder how much traction they will get out of the term "extortion?"

How many leaked phones, cars etc have we seen from other companies through the years? None resulted in arrests and federal raids. On the contrary, most of it works to stir the appetite of the public to *purchase* the item. Steve needs to chill. This anal behavior can't be good for his health.

The most egregious thing that I see here is that this leak leaves Steve in a quandary for what to do at his next big bash...no big reveal! Corporate egg on face.
