Help GN8 & WATCH-ON I/R Functionality

Has anyone had limited success w/the WATCH ON application & the I/R Blaster?

I have cable TV w/TIME WARNER,but no cable box.
The WATCH ON app asks for location/signal provider/etc... Once I set all of that,I'm prompted to select a cable/satellite box.I don't have/need one,but there is no option for N/A,etc.. so,I have to select as if I have a cable box.

This leads to only a partial functionality of the I/R Blaster w/the WATCH ON app.Power & volume control works on my TV,but,I cannot select channels.

The PEEL app works, but,I don't particularly care for it,seems a bit sluggish & I have to have the tablet pointed squarely w/my TV for the PEEL application to work.

The WATCH ON app is better in that regard, but I'm seemingly stuck w/limited functionality.

Am I missing something on the WATCH ON set-up,or,is there perhaps a bug w/the WATCH ON app?

THX! :)

Part of the reason i don't use it much was due to the lag. But I do think it's great as a backup.

I have a hd dvr in my room though.

If you want a totally customizeable universal remote than head over to the Play Store and try out the Touchsquid remote for Samsung. It costs $14. If you have over 6 devices in any one room then buy the Pro version for $39. That's the one I use because I do professional home theater setups and for a paltry $39 I can setup a system that would require a remote costing many hundreds of dollars. You can pair your tablet with a repeater from Global Cache to completely hide the components or control components in other rooms. Touchsquid CS is awesome and they reply on their support forum usually the same day. Updates are very frequent to fix bugs and to add new features. I don't have any connection to this small Vancouver, BC based company. I just like their product. Also they offer a 30 day money back guarantee which should be the standard for all apps.

Thanks for the tip. I'm sure this could come in handy for some. I'm already set with Logitech Harmony remotes at my house.

THX! I'll give this a shot tonight & post my results.

The $25 GOOGLE PLAY credit from SAMSUNG will cover the cost. How fitting, being the I/R BLASTER should work w/o any $ coming out of my pocket. :D

Just saved myself $14 that I was going to spend on the TOUCHSQUID app:

When setting up the WATCH ON app, even though I have TIME WARNER as my cable provider, I simply chose OTA instead of TIME WARNER in the I-R set-up & I now have a 100% fully functional I-R Remote.

If you have cable service, but, no cable box, just a direct cable-to-TV connection, this should give you a fully functional remote.

If you only want to change TV channels then WatchOn will do that. I have lots of components and I want to use macro programming (activity based) to turn everything on and off and control every setting on each device.
The WatchOn app on the SGN 8 is also very limited compared to the app on the SG S4. For instance the SG S4 WatchOn app can control an AVR as well as other devices. The SGN 8 version is only setup to control a STB and a TV. I've tried to use the 'bring from TV' feature but it doesn't work, at least not with OTA TV. With the Touchsquid I've programmed a link to Zap2 It to get programing info so I have no use for WatchOn.
