Root Going to take the plunge and get into development

I've been in the Andriod world for a little under 2 years now. I am going to take the step and develop my own ROM. I went to college for a culinary degree, have no programing experience. But I think I can do this. I have had a lot of luck with the F6 so I will start with that. Any help and tips would be appreciated.
