Google knows your home Wi-Fi Password

In all honesty about all this privacy, etc - if Google wants to take me down. They have a mountain of evidence at their disposal. I just don't believe Google will ever have this desire.

My concern more directly related to your post is: Google, please keep ALL info as secure as it can be. I don't want anyone but you to have access to this info. No laptop being left at a gas station with an unprotected excel spreadsheet please.

I don't think I consciously realized it, but I'm not surprised by it at all. After all, it is a setting in my phones, and I choose to sync my stuff with Google, so...

Anyway, I'm seriously doubting that Google will run out of other things to do and will suddenly start doing nefarious things with our wi-fi passwords. However, if it should come down to that, my life is pretty boring! They'll leave in a hurry. :rofl:
 
I guess that it is a good thing I never backup my settings to Google. To that end, I use MAC address filtering anyways...

I just imagibe google driving around without an internet connection and suddenly realizes it can just hop on your WiFi

I do not claim Google will miss use the data. I simply note how easy it is for the government to get the data, or anyone else hacking Google. They keep records of all out communications without regard to the 4th Amendment and lie about it until caught.
 
All governments do that. Unfortunately, we can all yell until we're blue in the face and all politicians will do is lip service. Maybe it's time to literally get out the big guns...

I'm kind of tired/annoyed/fed up with our own government :/

But "the government" is not Google, and the government cannot simply get data from Google. There are channels they have to go through, including needing some compelling reason for specific records. And I certainly hope that Google has enough security in place that no one, including the government, can hack them!

Perhaps, and perhaps not.

But the issue at hand, i.e., our wi-fi passwords and Google having them, is up to us to control. :)
 
I didn't know about this till I activated my phone when I bought it back in April, it's pretty neat and I don't have a problem with it. I did check off the back up option I just wasn't sure if it included the wi-fi password.
 
they do not have MY wifi password because i do not have a wifi password set. i'm not a tin-foil hat looney.

that being said, i find it funny that Microsoft is running their ad here on AF slamming Google for 'not caring about privacy/you've been Scroogled' and offering up, as an alternative, Outlook, infamous for losing data to hackers and slipping in every trojan horse ever made into users' email inboxes. it would be just like them slamming Chrome and offering up Internet Explorer as a 'more reliable, secure browser'

Unfortunately mac-address is easy to sniff and then to clone. You dont even need special skills to it, only a free software from internet or similar... It's only blocking the old woman next to your appartment who doesn't even know what is a wifi :D

That is true, but that is just one layer. I went a little overboard and did a WPA enterprise setup to keep the college kids from using my internet connection for their gaming/streaming, and also for the work stuff I did (though that wasn't really needed as I use a VPN for that).
