Help Google navigation turning on when plugged into 12v car socket

When my son plugs his HTC into the 12v socket in my car google navigation opens on his phone, also I seem to be also having problems with Copilot Premium on my phone also when plugged into thsi socket the Copilot lands up asking to licence sync the maps and eventually crashes, both are HTC desires HD with Gingerbread OS.

This is really weird as for sure charging a phone via the 12v car socket should not effect sofware.

common fault with the DHD, due to dirt getting in the USB socket or possibility corrosion on the board near there that causes it to short on pins 4 and 5 and trigger car mode. I had the same thing on my old phone and it drove me crazy as eventually it started going into locations and google NAV even when not plugged in. Start by getting some pressurised air can and cleaning out the usb socket on the phone see if that helps.
