It should be in your app drawer and be called Play Store. As you mention kernels, have you go a rooted phone with a custom rom? If so some custom roms do not include google apps (maps playstore gmail etc) and they need to be loaded separately. If this is the case I suggest that you register on these forums and subscribe to the all things root sub forum for your particular device and ask the question there with as many details as possible
