Check your Google Account in settings and see if one or more of the syncs is failing... Try a manual sync or disable the culprit if its not used.

It often happens to me if I'm in an area with poor signal and/or patchy data quality. Best fix is to turn off sync temporarily until you're back into decent network coverage.

I've also had it (but very rarely) when the signal is good; I had to restart the phone to "fix" whatever caused it in those cases.

Just in the past two days Google Play Newsstand has contributed 30% of my battery use and I don't use it. It is now disabled and I'll keep an eye on it. I would normally attribute the behavior to incompatibility with ART but Google should have that covered.

Hi everybody.
Sorry I haven't replied sooner , but I was sick with a stomach virus . so I got gsam on my phone just today it spent 5:40 till 25% with 2:12 on screen time and 1:38 held awake . is that normal for this phone?. I'm really wishing for better battery life. Can't ask for everything though. I appreciate everyone's help.
Thank you ,
Anthony .

Hmm... That seems a little off, on a good day I get around 2.5-3 hours screen time over a full day (16 hours) and usually have 20% left, provided everything goes smooth with syncs and I have good signal strength most of the time. Now if I am getting poor signal or a sync has a hiccup, or use Maps much without connecting the charger it will not make it through the day usually.

If you have poor signal, the display brightness is above 30%, or an app is rouging out your numbers may be normal. GSAM can give you a lot more details though, go into app sucker and look at the app usage and time held awake by app.

Hi everybody , so alright I did some tests . nothing really seems out of ordinary screen usually about 20% or so , apps total at about 47% . android was the biggest being android at like 20 something or so % including Pandora and YouTube at about 3% each . doesn't sound horrible but I'm still getting about max 2:15 of screen on time . which y'all stated should be more . I'll attach a screen shot tomorrow . also does gsam have a history you can look at ?. I was hoping it did . I appreciate everyone's help,
Thank you,
Anthony.

Screenshots of the main screen and screen, radio, and app usage (set for time held awake) would be the most useful.

I often see Google Play Services, Android System, and Kernel (Android OS) being the top ones in the battery usage list, especially with very light usage... If you disable Google Now and location services completely they will drop down some and you will see improved battery life, somewhat.

Hi everybody I took some screenshots . I hope these will be helpful . somehow I find them a bit odd , but y'all know more than I do.

The only thing that looks out of line here is mediaserver chowing the battery... you have a file that is causing the scan to fail... Mediaserver scans all files in your storage partition so that it can populate Gallery, Music, etc with the appropriate previews and info.

There is no simple way to see what file is causing the issue or when it fails, You can try going to Apps -> All and find Media Storage in the list, and clear data then reboot. It will rebuild the databases, if it continues to suck up battery remove all music, pictures, videos, etc from the phone, verify that the mediaserver process isn't sucking the battery, and gradually add back the files you want to keep on the phone until it starts failing. Usually the culprit is a picture or music file that mediaserver has trouble getting the information from or it is corrupt, remove the file and the problem will disappear.
