Help Google voice problem, screen turns off when playing messages

I'm a recent convert from HTC Inc to Razr Maxx. Love the new phone but I can't figure out this one little problem...

I use Google Voice for my voicemail but when I play back messages on the Maxx, playback stops when the screen goes black as soon as I put the phone up to my ear. I'm guessing the proximity sensor is the culprit.

On my Inc, I used the Screen On app, which worked perfectly.

I tried that on the Maxx and it doesn't work. Also tried Tasker and the built-in Smart Actions but neither seems to have this functionality.

There don't seem to be any setting in either the phone or Google Voice to modify the screen off behavior.

Thanks for any help on this!

I've noticed the same exact thing on mine. It usually takes a few tries before I actually get through a voicemail.

I'm hoping/guessing that the ICS update will solve this.

To be honest, this one little thing is my only issue with this phone, and that being said, it's pretty insignificant relative to other issues that I've had with previous phones.

I always listen on speaker phone so I went to try it after reading this, and I am not having the issue described unfortunately. I will continue to test. I wish full MMS support would happen on GV.

I never noticed this issue either, so just tried but couldn't reproduce the problem. My screen stays on and scrolls through the words as the message plays. Maybe try uninstalling and redownload.

Agreed. GV would be so much better with MMS support!

I was having the same problem on my Droid 4. I would put the phone up to my ear and the screen would black out and the voice mail would stop playing. I fixed this by going into my Display settings and turning off "In-Pocket detection"
