Help GPS on constantly according to battery meter

JBentleyR

Android Enthusiast
I have a small problem that I hope someone may be able to help me with.

When looking at 'History details' under the battery meter, I find that there is a solid blue line after 'GPS on' which remains despite my turning off 'Location' and even when WiFi is off and the phone in standby. In fact, it only stops after I have 'powered off' the phone, recharged and re-started. On the other hand, the fact that GPS is indicated as being constantly on, the battery charge does not appear to decrease unduly when I am not doing anything and the phone is on standby.

This seems to occur after I have used GPS with the following apps:
AndroiTS GPS Test;
Navmii; and sometimes
Google Maps

Is this just an example of false reporting by the battery meter?

Many thanks.

I leave GPS enabled all the time, never turn it off, on all our devices including my Nexus 5. Causes no problem with battery drain. GPS is inactive except when needed and the GPS icon is visible. No GPS icon, no GPS, no power used.

This definitely sounds like a software bug. I've never had the problem with Google Maps, so I'd assume that the guilty party is AndroiTS or Navmii. Uninstall those one at a time and you'll know which.

Is your battery life being adversely impacted by GPS supposedly being on 100% of the time? If it's actually active during that time I would expect your power level to drop like a brick.

Edit: I learned to read. :D
On the other hand, the fact that GPS is indicated as being constantly on, the battery charge does not appear to decrease unduly when I am not doing anything and the phone is on standby.

So yeah, sounds like it's just an error with how it's being reported.

Thank you all for your very prompt and reassuring replies.

Yes, I had suspected that it was the battery monitor, so I'll just ignore it!

Come to think of it, I may have been misleading about Google Maps. I think that, in the past, it may have been when I left GPS active even after closing Google Maps. I ought to be more careful to either turn Location mode to 'Battery saving' or 'Device only' after use, or to turn Location off completely when not needed.
