Hardware diffs

Hey guys, I'm considering getting an LG spirit, have the LG motion. My question is can someone dig me up the differences in hardware from the LG motion to the LG spirit? I need to know if it is worth the massive dent in my pocketbook.

To me, having both, the larger screen is worth the $ difference. IMO, it is nearly the perfect size.

Aside from the bigger higher resolution screen, there's really no hardware difference.

The Spirit & Motion have the same cpu/gpu combo (msm8960 with adreno 225). So processing power will be the same.

The Spirit has newer firmware and an updated user interface. It's also a more desirable phone which has taken interest from a couple of talented developers that are working on CM10.1. We also have a few things already to mod it. Over time it's community will grow larger as well.

If these few differences interest you, then it would be worth the upgrade.

I heard somewhere in the LG motion forum that it's basically a big brother phone to the motion. Hi res and vibrant screens, and jellybean are very appealing to me. Cm10 exists for the motion, but since the spirits release development on the motion has died.

Also it's an LG, do we have a locked bootloader on this phone? From what I hear since it's higher end then the motion maybe if it is locked we will be lucky?

yes the bootloder is locked. I haven't had a motion to say if it's the big brother or not. to me its like comparing a mustang and an E150 van. both have a 5.0 engine but far different.

Software really is everything hopefully you'll get lucky hope they don't do what Asus did with their tablets and require your home address to unlock the bootloader. Basically you signed up online to register it and the address is required and must be verified. Stalkers? What the heck are they going to do with that information? The unlock tool for the tablet in question sends data unencrypted that is a bit scary.

Back on track I have a few more questions about this phone.

I was wondering what a good price for this phone used would be. I was thinking about trading my motion but since development is dead I do not think it will go for much.

I was thinking high price would be $200 for a used handset without a screen protector or sd card, and without a network card (for 4g)

Also if it has a bad ESN will I still be able to activate it? I saw a few that where cheap on ebay but I could probably get a better deal somewhere else if you know what I mean.

If I took the phone to the store would that be a good idea? I'm big on do it yourself I really want to avoid trips to the local metro pcs store.

From a google search:

A cell phone can have a bad ESN/MEID/IMEI number for one of 3 reasons:

  1. The phone was reported lost or stolen in the past.
  2. The phone is still active on the owner's wireless carrier account.
  3. There is money owed on the wireless carrier account to which the ESN/MEID/IMEI is connected.
I would just shell out the cash for a new one.
$239.00 shipped to your front door from Wirefly.com

I struggled with the decision of upgrading from the Motion to the Spirit for two months before finally pulling the trigger (A few days after my Birthday and a few days before the end of the $70.00 rebate) and I'm glad that I did.

The phone is basically the same, but with a few extra bells and whistles, but it also lighter, thinner and much bigger.

The LG Motion will feel like a brick in comparison and the entire Motion phone is a tiny bigger than just the screen on the Spirit.

how can you say they are the same phone? when the spirit looks nothing like the motion and performs better?

i wouldn't trust a phone that doesn't come with the "sim" card and having a bad ESN means something is up with the phone/account it was attached to.

The hardware specs are the same. Performance is a tiny bit slower due to the bigger screen according to Antutu and Quadrant Benchmark tests.

what one has slower performance? the spirits been killing every metro phone. The sg3 has the same processor so that means its the same as the motion and the spirit?

sorry, I have OCD. someone saying two things that are not alike are the same causes me to go insane.

Get the Spirit, the LG Motion is perfect at its price point, but it's most likely that Android Community will pay attention to it's big brother.

Specs and feel wise, the Spirit feels way better in your hand that the bulky Motion, it also is faster and the only advantage of the Motion is that extra 1gb of internal memory.

But, if we find a way to move apps to SD, LG Spirit it's gonna be a keeper

Thanks guys.

I made this post as a reference point for those switching to the spirit from the motion, hopefully some use will come of this.

Maybe some of this info could go into the FAQ

Might have to put the spirit on the back burner, but it looks promising work don't pay much lol. I'll hang around to see what develops

I should have clarified my statement.

The LG Motion is a little faster on the Benchmark test due to the smaller, lower res. screen than the LG Spirit on both the Antutu Benchmark Test and also on the Quadrant Benchmark Test.

The hardware is on both phones is basically the same, although the Spirit has a little less storage space than the Motion, but the Spirit software has a few new enhancements that the Motion does not have.

every test I've seen the spirit performs better, it even out performs metro's gs3

On my Unrooted LG Motion, Antutu Benchmark score was generally around 12750
On my Unrooted LG Spirit, Antutu Benchmark score is generally around 11750

Similar result with Quadrant Benchtests.

The LG Spirit has a bigger screen, so it probably requires more resources to redraw/refresh the screen resulting in a lower Benchmark score.

Since the internal hardware is basically the same with the exception of the storage space, it would make sense that the smaller Motion would be a bit faster although IDK if any speed enhancements were made to the Spirit SW

YMMV

weird every test I've seen the spirit test better.....

Iv owned a motion for about 3 months , never lagged . Well only once while using n7player and using the web . That was the only time . The spirit lags on just about everything i throw at it . Multi tasking sucks on it but the size is what really matters for me , the motion sold for about 180 back then when it came out i think . Maybe if you stick with the motion until the spirits price goes down you will feel more comfortable with your decision.

The best deal was a new one from Wirefly for around $230 minus the $70 rebate. That got you in for about $10 more than a Motion.

If I were doing it now and money was Really Tight, there are like new ones on
The Bay for $160-200.

And yes, I'd do that (real fast) before I'd pay $150 for a new Motion.

the spirit doesn't lag on anything for me.. stop trying to download porn;)

I tether to my netbook and download that way lol joking:rolleyes:

Seriously though im not trying to say its a bad slow phone or anything . Just that in the lg motion i could go from one app to the next no matter how big it was in a matter of 1 second . On the spirit it might take about 5 seconds sometimes it gets stuck completely but thats only when im multi tasking . On the motion i could be listening to music (stock music player ) while watching a video on a app (Over Skreen ) while watching another video on the app ( youtube ) with no lag . On the spirit i doubt you will be able to that with out getting major lag . Maybe its just my phone but when im listening to music and try to do anything else on it , it lags out real bad . The keyboard sometimes freezes . I still love it though , its nice looking thin and light . Perfect sized screen plus it comes with a nice app or two . I love the keyboard and the setting ( wise screen ) . I seen the connect and was shocked , the internal memory and battery life looked horrible in the specs on metros web site . I thought i was dreaming for a sec , i never owned one so i cant really say much about it but ill tell you this much . This phones pretty damn good .

Oh yeah by the way , if i was going to download porn i would probably use a laptop . I need to conserve the memory for youtube music videos and songs .

I multitask with no lag, I go from one app to another just fine, keyboard doesn't stick for me at all. they both have the same chip set so they would both be capable of doing the same tasks.

I use moboplayer, it has a screen over while doing other things and it never lags. I play music while doing other things on my phone with no issue. i talk to people and fool around on my phone with no problems. You must have gotten a bum phone. You should field goal kick it out the window

Your funny , seriously though . Comparing it to the motion its laggy . Comparing to any other phone its pretty fast . I doubt i got a mest up phone , ive notice it on several videos on youtube that it tends to lag out . Dont get me wrong , it multi tasks pretty good at times but it also lags once in a while . The motion would never lag not one bit . Its just a slick phone in my experience with it i fell in love . Its really tiny now that i have the spirit , as a matter of fact i was searching the web on it . Everything loads up quicker , a lot quicker . I wonder why . Both on wifi , maybe lg is spying on us =0 . Im still wondering , open up you spirit and look at it . Dosent it make you wonder where all the stuff fits ? Its reduced space for anything to fit is amazing . Lg motion feels extra heavier and looks fater . Maybe the motion has something we dont .
