Having contacts synced with facebook, but using my own picture

I have an HTC Eris with Verizon

With 1.5 you had the option of syncing either or both a facebook contacts: 'birthday' and/or 'photo', but if you wanted to use your own photo, you were able to by not syncing the photo.

How can I do this with the new 2.1? If i link to my gmail contact vs. my facebook contact, it doesn't have the facebook link anymore, which I want, I just don't want to use someones facebook profile pic.

Any help??
