Root HD Desire - Ice cream or Jellybeans?

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been asked a million times - I did look first I promise.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and moving from Gingerbread to either ICS or Jellybean?

Any suggestions? I was going to go for ICS, but it appears Jelybean is out there too, but is it really stable enough?

I'd love to upgrade, but not at the expense of stability.

Thanks All.

Andy

Hello and welcome, Andy!

Thanks for joining Android Forums :)

It all depends what you want from your experience... I used to have CM10.1 (Vanilla Android) on my DHD... others prefer Sense based ROM's.

I am sure that someone will be able to give you an idea though :)

Sorry Andy for only a short answer before - as I was in work! :)

Are you already rooted or do you need to root first? There are a couple of guides that I can link if you need to root, otherwise, read on :)

You could go for Vanilla Android (meaning there's no overlay/UI, just plain Android) - this is what is on the Nexus range of phones or you could go for a Sense based ROM - this would be similar to what is already on the phone.

There are several of each (Vanilla/Sense)... you might like to have a look at this thread - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/489044-desire-hd-all-things-root-guide.html - it has quite a good list of ROM's (in all flavours of Android).

The best thing about being rooted is that you can try as many different ROM's as you want - you could even end up being a flash-a-holic (eh, ral ). What some like, doesn't suit others, but if you fancy trying something new, then I'd say you can't go far wrong with CyanogenMod 10.1 (CM10.1).

I wasn't a fan of Sense, so spent my 2 year contract flipping between Vanilla Android ROM's (mainly different versions of CyanogenMod as new ones came out)... I know others will be able to give you their opinions of the Sense ROM's.

If you have any questions, just ask and someone will answer :D

Cheers for replying D-U-R-X. I haven't rooted it yet - any links to best guides would be great.

Not sure about vanilla or sense. What is it about sense that you wanted to get away from?

Andy

Not really sure/can't remember... only had my phone 3/4 weeks before I rooted it!!

Will dig the links out for you :)
