Root Help: LOST ALL My Titanium Backup Files during Viper 3.0.1 ROM Install...!!??

scudder

Android Expert
Hiya...

Seems I might have LOST my ENTIRE Titanium Backup Pro archived apps!!!?? :(:( Not sure when/how it happened but was during one of two things I did...

I was just attempting to flash Viper4G 3.0.1 ROM and ran into an initial problem there the phone processes were quitting and I couldn't get to the home screen. I did not know at the time that that was not a big deal as mentioned by EarlyMon but I went ahead with Rxpert83's advice to wipe through TWRP recovery and flash again which is what I did.

So I booted into recovery and, not fully knowing what I was doing but still CONFIDENT that what I was doing was safe, I wiped the following (might have been redundant): cache, dalvik cache, system, factory reset, system, internal storage.

I made sure NOT to wipe external storage as I thought THAT was where Titanium keeps it files but as I am typing this I think that wiping the internal storage is where I lost my files, is it??:(:(:(

I then re-flashed the ROM and booted up...and this time with no phone processes quitting.

I then started with my google settings and went to the Play Store to load Titanium (which I didn't realize is pre-loaded with the ROM) and my Pro key.

When I launched Titanium I got a message that the phone ID had changed and that some apps for security/licensing purposes might stop working like this:

mpYEJc2.jpg

I have NEVER seen this prompt in Titanium before but I did choose the TWRP "Factory Reset" option. I then thought it made sense and chose to restore the previous ID.

After that choice, when I launch Titanium, I see NONE of my previously archived apps!! I checked for the Titanium folder using ES File Explorer....folder is EMPTY.

Questions:

Did I lose my Titanium folder?? If not, where is it?? I thought it was on my external storage SD card...but I don't see it there any more...?? I definitely did NOT erase my external storage because I still have all my picture files.

If I did lose my Titanium folder, at what point did I lose it above: with one of the wipes in TWRP??...which one?? Or was it with my choice to restore the previous ID??

I had fully wiped and reset and flashed and restore with my old EVO and NEVER got this Titanium Pro prompt with regard to the IDs. I'm kinda SHELL-SHOCKED trying to figure out what happened....??

ANY THOUGHTS??

And if my stuff IS lost, I'm thinking of doing the following:

Since I created a nand backup of Viper 2.0.2 right before I flashed Viper 3.0.1, I was thinking of RESTORING the backup of 2.0.2. Then, I SHOULD be able to get my apps back and back them up again with Titanium, right?? And to do so, would I need to WIPE AND FLASH the Viper 2.0.2 ROM...or can I just RESTORE THE 2.0.2 backup even though I'm on the 3.0.1 ROM right now??
THANKS!!

And now that I check around a bit more, I'm missing backup of settings for my ChompSMS and my K9 mail. I REALLY think I screwed everything up when i wiped the internal storage in TWRP recovery, yes??

:confused::confused:

NOT happy with myself right now :(:(

THANKS to all...

Unfortunately with an internal storage, that's where the titanium folder is kept.

I hate to say, but when you wiped the internal storage, you lost all of your titanium files as well.

For future reference, only wipe cache, dalvik, data.

Otherwise anything on the internal storage will be deleted just like the titanium folder.

WOW...don't I feel like MILLION BUCKS right now!!

scudder = NOT too smart!! :(

And everything was going just fine until now...I just went too fast :(:(:(

What about my thought to go back and restore my nandroid from just a couple hours ago?? I would have my apps in the state they were in at that time, could recreate the Titanium folder and backup again. Would have to go back to my previous ROM version and the re-upgrade but I think that give me a chance to get back as close to where I was

I have on my computer SOME of the apps that I lost that were archived/uninstalled so all it not lost. I just haven't copied my Titanium folder from my phone to my computer in a long time. I could restore and get my phone back to the state it was just a few hours ago with my current apps.

THANKS for your help DragonSlayer95...

Scudder, I always wipe Cache, Dalvick cache, Factory reset, and System in TWRP. I've never had a problem doing those things.

I think for the future there is an option to keep the Titanium folder in Dropbox, or even the sd card.

You could try to restore a Nandroid but if you were saving to your internal storage then you also deleted that. If it's on external then you should be fine I'd think.

If you have a nandroid with the apps intact, just restore that nandroid.

Then launch titanium and back up the files again. :)

Make sure you do a nandroid of your current Rom before you move forward. This way once you get your apps backed up, you can nandroid back to Viper 3 and restore your apps from there. ;)

This is why I really don't like internal partition storage on my phone. It's too easy to accidentally wipe it.

THANKS Granite...I did just that last night! I'm back where I was but lost some of my archived/uninstalled apps and some previous versions that I was keeping just in case. I have a backup of my Titanium folder but it is about 10 months old...I rarely transferred anything to the computer because, well, it was safe on my phone!!

With wiping and flashing, I was used to my old EVO where I would scroll and wipe wipe wipe a whooooooole bunch of things...sometimes a few times...wipe wipe wipe (and overkill overkill overkill too probably;)). With TWRP I was very proud of myself for not too hastily wiping the EXTERNAL storage but didn't even think twice about the INTERNAL:mad::(

THANKS TO ALL for your help!!

Just to be on the safe side -

Titanium, Menu, General->Preferences..., (scroll down to Backup Settings), Backup folder location, set to external sd card if you have one.

Always backup your storage. ;)

....I have a both a galaxy nexus and Asus TF101 tablet...and neither has an SDcard.

Where should I be storing the Titanium Backup file?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!

it will be stored on the internal sd card. you do not have to tell it to store it there. it will do it automatically.

and just an fyi this thread is in the evo 4g lte root forum.

Apologies....I just did a google search, and it took me to this thread. Thanks for your help, but as you've suggested, I'll move to my playground ;-)
