Help Help Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini facebook notifications not showing in status bar on phone

Help i have a Sony Ericsson Xperia mini and when i receive messages on Facebook or notifications it doesn't show up on the phone i have to go into the program and check if i have any its the same with emails with g mail, is it supposed to be like this i have set the phone to receive notifications and flash the led light and everything please help ?

1.go to Play Store to check whether your Facebook is up to date or not
2.open Facebook - go to settings - notification settings - activate the notifications and you can change all the notifications settings there
