Help How do you enter letters within the android dialler?

I'm trying to unlock my Xperia Play and I've recieved the following instructions from my provider: "Using the dialler function which will bring up the keypad, input #pw+..." How do I enter pw?

It says afterwards: "(The p w and + symbols are found by keying the * key twice for the + symbol, three times for ?p? and four times for ?w?)" but this doesn't work...

It also starts off "With the Vodafone SIM card inside the handset" - I don't have the SIM as I bought it off someone (ebay) - I won't need the original SIM in to unlock the handset will I?

You get the + symbol by holding down the 0 key.

I've tried and as far as I can tell there's no way of getting letters on there. I typed the command into the messaging app and copied and pasted it into both the stock dialer and Dialer One. The stock dialer only showed the symbols, and although Dialer One showed P & W this way, when I pressed the call button, it reverted to numbers 7 and 9.

Sorry, it sounds like you've been given duff instructions.

r u sure that ur play is locked ?? many of phones r unlocked this days and if you have unlock code, if its locked after putting sim from ur own provider it will ask for unlock code so instead of entering p,w just enter the code then a voila - ur phone is unlocked - simple as that
