How do you remove the charger from the phone?

Alright. That's what I did. I was just wondering if the fit would loosen over time from all the yanking

Just make sure you grab the thick part (the part directly connected to the phone ) and not the wire. Doing so will probably mess up the wire over time. (even though it is a thick wire when compared to other micro usb wires.)

I was told to unplug the connector from the phone first before unplugging the charger from the wall outlet. Does it matter which comes first?

I’d say it is a good precautionary measure to do so because there there may be inductive components (ie coils of wire creating a magnetic field) in the charger. If the current passing though the coils is suddenly interrupted when the mains plug is withdrawn, it could, conceivably, produce a large surge of voltage that might damage either the charger or the phone. Usually, the charger would be designed to suppress such surges but as an user, one never knows if this is so.

If the load current of the charger is removed by unplugging it from the phone, then the current drawn from the mains is reduced and the voltage surge will be reduced ie there should be less risk of damage. However, if the charger has been properly designed there should be very little risk in any case but why take any risk with expensive gear?
