Root How to liberate misc space?

I'm right there with you buddy. That stupid Misc. is eating 2.4gb of my storage.
I bet that if we could find a way to free some of that, the phone would run better. Right now, im looking through the filesystem for useless files and the like that i could safely eliminate. Im assuming its under the system folder, whatever it is taking up space.

Its system "data". Which means to me various files that make up the system as a whole.

Edit 1. Oddly enough,I deleted a few files that should have decreased used space by 1 mb....it went up 1 mb upon reboot to 2.48 gb from 2.47 gb...

Edit 2. Removing apps do not effect the listed 2.47 gb in misc. on my end at all. The weird increase of 1 mb was gone and back to 2.47 gb after another reboot.

The misc files are just that... miscellaneous files that don't fall under any of the other categories.

They aren't in the system partition. The screen shot above is a detailed list of my misc files (I went to settings> storage> and touched misc)

Ok. I appreciate the responses. On another topic, i noticed at androidfilehost, the cyanogenmod 12.1 for the ls660 was there, but upon downloading it, it would not boot past the lg screen.

I booted it fine but data did not work for me but showed virgin mobile as the provider.

Edit: I installed cm12 using the latest twrp posted by SuperR and had been using the stock rom deodexed zv5 before wipe and install of cm12. Seemed stable outside data not working.

I would use cyanogenmod, but because the camera will not work, i have refrained.

Cm12 should run OpenCamera just fine regardless of cm12 camera issues. Worked great on zte awe for us. Give it a try. As for the data not working it reminds me of modem/radio issues like we had on the htc one v. Cant recall exactly but we swapped over some files from another rom that had the drivers working and it fuxed our issues. But been so long man I cant recall fully. Was a simple fix as we had multiple roms to swap things to and fro, back and forth.

Actually I do recall now. I was porting gsm htc one v roms to cdma and used pac rom files to fix the data issues on slim hean gsm along witg appropriate additions to the build.prop. And looking at the build.prop of cm12 for tribute leads me to think its all related to chameleon provider issues. Our stock rom uses chameleon provider to get data. If you delete it from system the rom wont give you data at all. I think cm12 is not equiped to get around that or use it.

In theory we might be able to use the virgin mobile build.prop settings for data from a device like the htc one v and get data on cm12. Not positive lte will work though. Now another device from that time period before they started using the chameleon stuff that did have lte may get the lte. Then again may do nothing at all. Just a guess. But seems fixable.

I think i will try that. Right now, i am downloading cyanogenmod 12. I will report back if your suggestion to fix the camera works. I appreciate it!

Ok. In the meantime I will see if I can get data working by editing in changes to the build.prop. If there is data I suspect it will only be 3G and not lte.

I figured out why cyanogenmod 12.1 didn't boot. It was the boot img. I fixed that part, but after it went into the os, it gave a bunch of force close errors.

I tried flashing it once, though last time I did it still had the memory leak, would boot up like molasses going up hill in January. So slow... it would get faster a few min after booting, but no where near as fast as kitkat. It also had no data then, but my service provider showed up as Sprint, even though I'm on Virgin... (Same company really, however I didn't approve.)

When I said stable I should have mentioned that was long enough to see why data was not working then restore stock rom. Have not fooled with it since. Im happy on stock. Wouldnt mind a stable 4.4.4 spirit rom for this device though.

a 4.4.4 spirit rom would be nice. The only thing is finding someone who could make it. With all due respect to everybody else and their efforts on progress already made.
