HTC Hero deletes my MP3's ?!?

So my microsd card was indeed fake, for what I can tell it was only a 1gb. I went to Best Buy and bought a 16gb (the biggest one they had) and sure enough my problem went away. No more files mysteriously disappearing.

Yep well you live and learn... you could try filing a claim on ebay if its worth your time

Shame to see theres currently no solution to this problem. I'm experiencing the same with my Desire 2.2.

Pulling my hairs thinking why does it keep deleting my music once it prepares the sd card.

I'm unmounting properly, the sd card isn't a dodgy one. I just have no idea.

I'll try to format it and see if that helps.

Grr, racking my brains out over this.

If I save files onto the sd card from my computer, put it back into the phone, it "prepares the sd card" and deletes those files I just added.

Furthermore I can't even format the sd card! I've formatted it 3 times, but every time i put it back in the phone and it "prepares sd card", it brings all the files back!

Is this the sign of a totally corrupt up sd card? i have a 16gig sandisk micro sd.

I would just test the microsd card, either use the card on a different phone and see if it does the same, and try a different sd card on your phone, that will clear if the issue is related to the card or the phone.
