HTC Incredible is a MASSIVE disappointment

Upgraded from Moto Droid to the Incredible yesterday. The only thing incredible about it is how it takes simple functions that the Moto Droid performs flawlessly and turns them into major inconveniences.

1. Activesync is useless for me because it tells me the email server requires a security unlock password for the entire phone. Yes, that means EVERY TIME I unlock the phone to make a call, check a text or email, open an app, etc., I have to enter a password. Add up how many times a day you want to access your phone, and then add up the time it takes to have to enter a 6 digit password just to check an email. My Moto Droid doesn't require me to have an unlock password unless I want one. This renders the phone completely useless, as who wants to go through such a hassle to use their phone? This reason alone is why I'm returning the phone, but there's more.

2. After charging my phone all night, I used it for one hour this morning and found 30% of my battery life gone. In one hour. 30%. Nice.

3. Email account display is terrible. On my Moto Droid, all email accounts are displayed on the email screen, and even color coded. On the HTC, it opens whichever email account was open before, and in order for me to see all of my accounts, I have to click on something else and scroll through the list. It doesn't even show them all on one screen. Major failure on HTC's part. Very poor design.

4. And how do you not have a DELETE option as a default button for emails? I have to click MENU and THEN DELETE? You couldn't put a delete button next to 'Reply' or 'Reply all'? Lame, and more unnecessary clicks to perform a basic function.

5. Direct dial contact shortcuts is also poorly designed on the HTC phone. On my Moto Droid, if I have 1 contact with multiple numbers, it will display an H (home), M (mobile), or W (work) in the icon so I know which number I'm dialing. On the HTC, there are no indicators. So if I create a shortcut to those 3 numbers for a single contact, the icons all look the same. I have no clue which one is the mobile number, or which is the home number. WTF?

How can such basic features be overlooked? It was supposed to be an UPgrade to this phone, not a downgrade. I will really miss the speed, light weight, better dashboard mount/holster, 7 home screens, and camera on the HTC, but the simple things my Moto Droid does so well cannot be replaced by the Incredible. Shame on you, HTC.
 
WOW, you are completely lost here. Every issue you are having is due to your lack of knowledge in the subject....please dont blame the phone....
 
Then please enlighten me instead of some vague response. Let's see you address any of the issues I mentioned. Prove me wrong so I can keep this phone.

Apparently Verizon tech support is wrong, too, and the woman i spoke to confirmed the Activesync password issue.
 
I would say your issues are legit but its just the difference between SenseUI and stock Android. You would be better served with a stock Android phone
 
What phone maker would not put a DELETE button as one of the main buttons for email? That doesn't even make sense.

But yes, generally speaking, the stock Android UIs (email, photo gallery, phone calls) are much better than the Sense version, IMO.
 
It's unfortunate that it's such a massive disappointment to you. If you want to try to get help, I would recommend going to the HTC Incredible forum. They will probably have some solutions for you.

It's evident that you've never even posted for any help on that forum. Before you make such dramatic post, make sure that there's nothing else you can do about it. Just my .2

Much easier to complain and blame than it is to educate yourself.
 
I have a Droid Eris that I will trade you and some extra money if you don't like it! I'll even throw in an LCD monitor :)

Right. I explained, in detail, the issues - which are all HTC UI functions. So exactly how do I get "help" to fix them.

Getting help from a forum will place a delete button on my stock email app?

getting help on the forum will remove the required unlock password? I realize it may be a email server issue from my company, but the point remains the phone's function is what allows this to happen, as it doesn't on my Droid.

I also don't live on Android message boards, so I don't know where all of the official forums are for every phone that's out. I was merely venting my frustration and disappointment with this phone compared to my Moto Droid. I've never owned an HTC phone, so didn't expect the interface to be so different when I was expecting Android 2.1 and didn't really get it. I recently converted an iPhone user to get 2 new Droid phones because I like the OS. I'm not bitching just to bitch. The HTC interface is severely lacking compared to stock Android, IMO, and I've explained why.

Don't worry, with this kind of snotty welcome from several posts here, I will remove my bookmark to this site and won't return. Good day, folks.

I think calling Verizon tech support and then going into the Verizon store to explain my issues to a rep, and then going to Best Buy (where I bought the phone) to explain to a rep is considered "making sure there's nothing else I can do about it."
 
it sounds like you're not actually unhappy with the Incredible *save for the battery issue* but rather with SenseUI. You could've done your homework ahead of time with an Eris or something see if you liked Sense. Maybe it will get rooted soon and you won't have to use it anymore...it not, my offer stands!

If you wanted real heklp you would have posted in the forum for your phone and you wouldn't have used a DRAMA title for your thread.
 
This phone is praise by many tech that do phone reviews and haven't heard any thing this bad.
 
HTC Incredible is the best ANdroid phone out there...

if you don't like certain Sense apps.. use the stock apps instead.

this is a security function emposed by your work. it has nothing to do with the phone. If you ant to get rid of it, contact your IT department. The same thing happens on my windows mobile phone with my work's email.

You obviously didn't look very hard. Its right on the front page, a little farther down in the "Android Phones" forum list. Inside there is the "HTC Incredible" forum link.
 
I'm using an Eris and I'll be the first to tell you that Sense sucks. I was hoping a root would help me out in just having an affordable and capable phone. Instead, there still isn't a root for the majority of the Eris users on this forum and people are getting frustrated.

In that sense, until the Incredible is rooted, I'm willing to bet most of the problems from the Eris will be on here too.

Best thing, in my opinion, and it seems you have realized it by getting a Droid, is getting a stock Android phone. They get priority in updates, they don't need to wait as long, and they simply just work. Android is great on its own. It doesn't need a custom UI. All those flashy menus and animation just slows the phone down.


Your issues are beyond speed, but it's still the same idea that custom UIs are just silly to me.


You may be able to get away with switching to Home, but I believe Sense still runs in the background. The Eris' memory blows. Maybe 512MB of RAM makes the problem less noticeable. But it still won't be as fast as if Sense were completely gone. Wait for a root for that one, I guess. Just be happy you want root but don't have an Eris.

I'm not sure what you mean. There is a root for the Eris.

I do agree. SenseUI really slows the phone down. I installed the VanillaDroid ROM to my phone, and it made a huge difference. Since most of the Sense features and apps are removed in place for stock ones (with a few exceptions), my Eris is a lot more responsive and performs better and can even run Live Wallpapers with no problems. I think my battery life improved as well.

I'm not sure if it was like this before, but the delete button in the Gmail app on my Eris is not in the menu but rather on the screen like the OP wanted it.

I'm sure if the Incredible got something similar to the VanillaDroid ROM, it would be blazingly fast.
