Htc lawsuit soundoff

yeah these patents are mostly a joke. most of the things windows mobile phones had well before iphones. in one of the patents, it goes on to explain how apple designed the scroll bar. the us patent office is losing all credibility in my eyes. just another half baked government agency at this point. they apparently review over 1000 patents a day, and approve 40% of those. granted some things need to be patented, but i would question whether most software applies. I've never known a developer that didn't find at least some part of their code online and copy it.

I just browsed the Apple forums looking for info on this issue and it was interesting. Some seemed happy as expected about what Apple was doing but others seemed like they were almost on our side but not willing to admit it so they're staying more neutral. Either way I went looking for fire and found it. DOWN WITH APPLE!!!

Don't get it twisted, i LOVE my Hero nd wouldn't trade it for an Iphone ANYDAY for a few very simple reasons, overall cost, overall design, overall ease of integration with other technologies, and open source just to name a few. However I do agree that a patent violation is a patent violation BUT where I digress is the way apple is going about this lawsuit. As most have stated, apple is suing HTC for patents on technology that have existed LONG before the Iphone was even a piece of a dream. So if apple is gonna sue HTC they need to sue Palm, Blackberry, and a host of other electronic manufacturers for "infringing" on their patents as well. I have to also express my disappointment with the patent office for allowing apple to patent a simple left to right thumb gesture. Thats just bologna!!! It's pretty obvious that apple is singling out HTC because they just so happen to be the primary source for the slew of android phones that have hit the market in the past several years. The Droid has all the patent infringing technology that the Hero does so way isn't apple dragging Moto into this? And as obvious as it is, steve jobbs is quite worried about it because he will not stop until every mother, teenager, and 5 yr old own and or know how to operate and iphone! The iphone is like the michael jackson of phones. It has created a legacy that no one has yet to or will prolly every in reality surpass so what's he really worried about. 40 million phones and counting and he's crying about a handful of patent violations that i GUARANTEE the average iphone user doesn't know jack about. They just want their toys.

A big reason why a lot of these patents seem a little absurd and vague is due in part to the fact that laws regarding patents and copyrights haven't been able to keep up with new technology. New phones, processors, operating systems, and software suites seem like they're developed and released almost everyday (exaggeration, kind of). Patents work great for what they're meant to do, protect you the inventor and your inventions from large corporations (Apple etc.). As the patents from the brief show, when it comes to things like software and UI it kind of sucks. Keep in mind we are seeing more and more cases like this that are asking questions that haven't been answered so far. The burning question here is property ownership and ownership of IP's. Very exciting stuff if you're interested in law, keeping in mind that almost all law can be boiled down to, "This stuff over here is mine, don't mess with it."

This will get thrown out because you can't selectively sue for patent infringement. They are only going after HTC because they are successful. If they sue one, they have to sue all. I think the publicity will eventually hurt Apple and help HTC.

They don't have to go after everyone but my question is why r they suing the one company who is making successful phones? Like I said they should be suing Moto too for that matter. Btw I saw another 5 yr old at the store watching some sort of cartoons or playing some sort of game on an IPhone!!!!! This is getting ridiculous...

That could have been the kids parent's phone. I let my kid play with my Hero.. to keep her busy... and out of trouble.
This has saved my life.. on long drives!

Because they are making successful phones, hence the lawsuit. My point is, they can't say we'll sue company A for using our patent but not company B for using it also.

I agree.. but i aint no lawyer.

they might have a deal to share patents or $$ with company B.

If I was God, I would sue Apple for using the fruit I created as their logo and name.

OMG thats freaking hilarious.... I wish Apple would just stop being little pansy, and grow the H*LL up! Accept that they are no longer the top dog of cell phones anymore. BABIES!:p

Apple sued New York City in 2008 for using an apple, which looks nothing like Apple's apple, in thier "Big Apple" logo. It's hard to take their suits seriously.
