Root HTC One M8 O/S wont update

After unlocking the bootloader and rooting my one M8 - and then reversing this process, it seems that I cannot upgrade the software.

The phone is prompting me to update the software, when I choose install now, it shuts down and then turns back on - but it presents me with the bootloader screen.... I have HBOOT or FASTBOOT choices... I can choose reboot and it will then boot back up - prompting me to update once updated...

How can I update my phone - I guess it is up to version 4.4.3...

When reversing this process did you reflash the stock recovery?

If you wish to update via the official OTA you must have a stock recovery.

There are other methods to flash the firmware, but you must download the appropriate files. They are available through threads here, at xda, and at the mikmik. Accepting an OTA is generally a bad idea on a rooted device.

If you have trouble flashing on your own, EM, Granite, or Scotty should be along shortly with step by step instructions.

Now you mention it - I didn't flash a stock recovery... don't know why I didn't think of this to be honest.
 
When rooting previously, I used Hasooons 2000 all in one toolkit. There is an option on there to flash factory RUU. How do I know if this is the correct one? I believe the wrong one could brick the phone. I have a UK EE HTC One M8 - is this the T-Mobile Equivalent?
 
are you s off or s on? an s on phone wont let you flash an ruu.

do you have an unmodified backup of your stock rom? all you need to do should be restore a stock backup,then install the stock recovery.

this is why i am not a fan of "toolkits"... the offer little to no support after the fact.

if you can place your phone in fastboot and enter:

fastboot devices

then

fastboot getvar all

paste the resulting info here(xxx out your esn,imie meid)

that would help us find a correct ruu,iff needed :)

Ah right, I see. That was the all in one toolkit that I used to unlock the bootloader.

There is in fact an option to flash back to factory RUU within the toolkit but I trust it much less than I could throw it. How can it offer a generic stock recovery Flash feature when you have to be careful and note baseband versions? I daren't try it to be honest.

Tempted to sell my handset on ebay and buy another brand new one and steer well clear of all this to be honest mate.

I appreciate all of your help and hope I can get my phone back to Stock. Seeing as though Firewater wont S-Off my particular device, I may as well give in!

Not at all, the sunshine S-off method will work. it cost $25, but it is guaranteed to work. As far as I know there is no RUU available for the international version. I do believe there is a stock nandroid available for your variant, so not all is lost. :)

The reason Scotty was asking you to post up the output of those commands is to determine what software you need to get back up and running. What you need to do is go here to the root thread and download the mini-SDK: http://androidforums.com/one-m8-all-things-root/845182-htc-one-m8-root-thread.html

Follow those instructions to get that set-up, then we'll move on from there. :)
 
OK thanks again. I shall try to do this tonight - I am not sure if I shall get time but I will do it and post back the results.

grr the main version is one of the important bits we need to try and get you completely stock. your phone is booting,and still running stock,correct?

can you check settings/about phone/build number and let us know what that is it will be in this sort of format: x.xx.xxx.x

OK, I hope this is right. I am sorry I missed this out. I remember checking this number out a few days back when searching for stuff...

Build Number is 1.54.61.5 CL325784 release-keys

The phone is booting. I am running TWRP with Super SU installed. Now, I did update SuperSU/TWRP yesterday when prompted. The phone has not rebooted itself like it has done previously and I have had to restore from backup to resolve.

I am wondering if I could maybe root it now without it rebooting and loosing its root like it has done on a few occasions now....

im a little confused on your issue now. do you have a working.unmodified backup of your stock OS? if so,we just need to find you a stock recovery.

what is your rebooting issue? if im understanding correctly it is resolved?
 
Hi. The situation is:

The phone boots, and is stable. In the past, when I have tried to apply the OTA update for 4.4.3 - it boots into TWRP, doesnt update (as I need factory recovery) then boots up and will continue to reboot itself. Its like it goes unstable after going into TWRP.

I did not take a Nandroid backup of the factory recovery but I did a backup in the HTC desktop software.

I want to update the phone to 4.4.3 but I believe I need to flash a stock recovery in order to do this...?

we have a couple options. the easiest and quickest would be simply flash a 4.4.x rom. you could use this one to get to 4.4.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2695706 (MaximusHD)

Must see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54408500&postcount=9592 before flashing new ARHD

both of those devs are top notch and should give you a better than stock experince.

second option is to find a stock recovery. ideally we would need to find one for your current build,but inless you have an OTApkg saved from that update,it may be tough to find. you you search your phone for an update. i believe youll find it in sdcard/download and it will be named something similar to OTA_M7_UL_K44_SENSE60_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_5.11.1540.9-4.19.1540.9_P_release_370042 . once you find it you can copy it to your pc,then extract it,then extract the firmware.zip thats inside,and youll find a stock recovery for the new update there. or,you can just upload it and paste a link,and ill do that for you. you now may be able to OTA naturally(or the OTA may recognize the newer recovery and fail,unfortunately... ive it happen both ways)

at any rate,i would personally recomend becoming s off before upgrading,as it will give you greater options for modding and running stock firmwares,and rescuing soft bricks. each update means a potential break of current exploits,so s off may not always be possible.
