Root I don't usually get stumped with these things but this has done it...

I have tried rooting with a couple different programs and they don't do anything. The program runs, (or seems to maybe) but never changes anything on the phone. Is there one program out there that is the best? I'm looking for a free version (preferably) and I use Windows.

The other part I have to this post is, is rooting all that beneficial? I've read some things on it, and am not really sure of the benefits and haven't seen much on what the risks to the device would be.

Help? Any info or advice would be appreciated!

What phone is it mate? You can use the Root Checker app to see if youre properly rooted. Just by rooting you wont notice any difference. It just opens the door to doing cool stuff :thumbup:

odin3 is the only program that works at this time....

if you are having problems installing clockwork mod recovery,
try pulling the battery and usb cord once odin3 says that it is passed.
it put cwm rovery on your phone but it you let your phone boot before getting to it, it will erase it, then you will have to try again. so after you disconnect it, put the battery back in it, and boot right into cwm recovery, the flash the root.zip
