Help ICS 4.0.3 and Google (not)PlayStore NOT Downloading Apps

loverat

Lurker
Since my phone was upgraded, via Kies, from Gingerbread to ICS 4.0.3, this persistent problem is driving me absolutely mad. I am not rooted.

Playstore cannot update or download - it just sits forever picking the lint from its virtual bellybutton.

I have been trolling the web for weeks. Most people seem to be able to fix it, or related error problems, using 'clear data' etc on PlayStore and Framework and/or factory reset. I have performed these actions countless times in the hope that I too can be one of the lucky ones - but nada - obviously karma is in payback mode.

I saw one guy on these forums say he "changed his DNS to Google" and that fixed it. However no other info was forthcoming and I can't even find DNS settings to muck around with.

Questions:
Is anyone else having this persistent problem?
Is there anything else I can try?
Would rooting my phone possibly fix it?

I do know how to install apps from .apk's but its not possible to find them for all the things I want. I detest having to rely on one site for installs - it makes me feel like I am using the horrible I-things.

Appreciate any help or advice - including being smacked for installing something without thinking - I would never do it on my pc so god knows why I did it on my phone.

I have the same problem, but only via WiFi. In data mode, the apps are working: updating or downloading. But when i switch the phone to wifi, they simply remain stuck. I tried all those mention things and even flashed the latest firmware, since i was coming from a different rom. Didn't work. Now i have the latest firmware, phone's rooted and still nothing.

I too, will be grateful if someone open my eyes and tell me how to solve this.

Damn it just doesn't make much sense as each person seems to have a slight variation of a common problem. So now I have the most boring Smartphone in the world. This is what happens when things get dumbed down to such an extent that there there is basically only one avenue to get apps - and I mean free ones. Looks like an insurance job might be called for. I hate being screwed over by inanimate objects. Good luck getting your WiFi to work.

Cough *puts on his best aussie accent* "g'day mate!"

Can you expand on your issue a little more?

Play Store just won't connect at all, or won't download apps?

Have you checked your apn settings after your update?

Can you still get Internet / data otherwise? (email/browser)

Yes. Everything's working fine. The only problem is on google play.

I tried anoother wi-fi network and it's working. I'm only afraid that this could be a local problem, because of my router. I don't really know...

Most likely, I'd check all your settings and/or forget the network and set it up again

I have an HTC one x with ics and my partner upgraded her HTC sensation to ics and is now experiencing this problem too. Ours work on WiFi but don't work on mobile connection.
I have tried all the clear cache/clear data/reboot/uninstall update fixes on the google troubleshooting page and on other blog pages to no avail.
I am well sick of this problem and look forward to somebody solving it.
I have read about fixes involving turning off battery saver and data saver modes bit cannot find these options and so assume they are inappropriate to ics. If anybody finds the real answer, please repost it.
I have attempted to contact google describing the problem but and constantly redirected to links for app refund requests; which obviously do not help.

Not my forum, but, saw the title and it grabbed me. I have the same problem, but, I'm on a Avail with 2.3.4 and rooted. Play store has been messed up since AT&T "PUSHED" an update to me 2 wks ago. My phone is the same as before the update, but, Play won't d.l. while the app is open. I start a d.l., close the app and it finishes. Hope I was able to help.
Oh, and clear data on Download Manager. I got that tip from an actual person at Google. Who would've guessed there was humans there?? ;)

I have this problem also, tried uninstalling the updates to google play as recommended else where (by google) but this fails also (just sitting there with the activity bar going but nothing progressing as with software downloads which initiate but do not commence data download). On ICS 4.03. I really hope 02 bring out ICS 4.04 pretty soon now as I don't think there's a fix for this. I'm starting to loose faith in Android since ICS tbh, my phone has been a bit of a pain in the ass!

A couple of extra things I have observed. I deleted my google account and re added (as recommended on another thread here), the phone then recognises a large number of apps that need updating, all initiate but no data commences progression. Another thing I have noticed after trying to delete the update data of the Play app is that the phone does not report back through the app function on any of the usage stats any more. This indicates a possible issue with the permissions the device has to it's own app data. Can anyone advise further on a potential fix please, my phone is in limbo!

A final piece of info to clarify, I also cannot uninstall actual apps (not just their update data). Just get a progress bar which just sits there and cannot be killed!
