I'm getting the Google Nexus 7 for the first time. Thoughts?

I ordered a Nexus 7 (2012) yesterday that was new on Ebay. This is my first time buying one. I do have a nexus 4. What is the N7 like? What are some ROMS that you can get on it? Is it fast? What are the specs. of the N7? any thoughts on it? do you like it?

First off welcome to the forums

Otherwise there are a lot of ROMs, a ton even, just like every Nexus device

I am running Paranoid Android and it's one of the best experiences I have had with a ROM, it's so smooth and fast.

To add to what DC says, putting a kernel like Franco Kernel on it will really speed it up but lower battery life.
Most custom roms will let you enable "ART" which also (imo) really speeds things up.
It's easy to unlock and root :thumbup:

My 6 year old claimed one of my N7s and its been great for him.. He has been known to play it hours on end, and it keeps up... He prefers it greatly over his old ipod touch, not that its much of a comparison...

The original Nexus 7 is a nice tablet even with the stock ROM, although it lacks the slickness of the Nexus 4 with the same version. The N4 is a little quicker anyway and can use the ART runtime which speeds it up still further compared with the N7 and Dalvik.

Of course if you root and reflash the N7 you can use a ROM and kernel that supports ART as Funky said. It will never quite match the speed of the N4 but it gets pretty close.

Thanks! I am running the Paranoid Android ROM and its really fast! Sorry for the slow reply but the first time it came in the mail it was just an empty box... And its way faster then my old nexus 4. Probably because its flooded with apps and ROMS.
