[International / GSM] "Unfortunately, ROM Manager has stopped." type errors

the block

Newbie
I was interested in trying out Google Wallet so I followed the instructions here. After I rebooted my phone, several of my apps, including ROM Manager, come back with the error "Unfortunately, APP NAME has stopped." I'm able to hit OK and it closes.

How do I fix this? Possibly I messed up in Step 5-8, as I opened packages.xml is a text editor, copied and pasted it into the website they suggest, clicked fix it, and then I copied and pasted it back into the packages.xml file (I did save the original as packages.xml.old). I then pushed it back to my phone, rebooted, and now have the problem I explained above. The instructions didn't specifically state to paste the results of the "Fix it" website back into the packages.xml file, I just thought it meant to do that?

Any suggestions how to remedy this? Thank you in advance.

I found that uninstalling/reinstalling the apps I was having the problem with fixed them, so I uninstalled/reinstalled ROM Manager, booted into recovery, and restored a backup from a couple hours ago. Praise jesus. My heart was beginning to sink as I'm no rooting expert and my mind was starting to play out scenarios of how I've f'd my phone permanently, but I guess the moral of the story is keep a backup.
