Is it possible to Sim unlock a N9005 running 4.4.2?

I've just bought a used N9005 and I've used it a little to check all is well and now I want to root it and unlock the sim so that I can use it here in England

It appears that since the phone was updated to 4.4.2 I can no longer use Chainfire's Regionlockaway app. I've spent a couple of hours searching and I can't seem to find any working options to remove the sim lock. It's currently locked to EE. I've put in a T-Mobile sim and everything works fine but I'm using the 3 network and it won't work. I looked on ebay and the codes are around £16 ($25)!

It's currently running N9005XXUGNG1 and everything seems to be stock.

I thought about downgrading to 4.3 but then that seems to be scuppered by the latest bootloader not letting you use Odin to go back, but there is a workaround that could enable me to go back to Jellybean - could I use chainfire's app then?? This would be a last resort as I've read of a few people encountering problems when using this method to drop back to 4.3.

In the meantime I'm going to have a look into the best (and safest - had some issues with the rooting process on both my HD2 and S3 a few years back!) way of rooting it.

By the way, this is my first post on the Note 3 forum after moving up from the S3, so please be gentle!

How old is the phone? If it is bought and paid for by the previous owner (assuming they have had it from new) and they have got to keep it after upgrading EE should provide the unlock code for free. The T-Mobile SIM works in an EE phone because basically they are one and the same network. An old Orange SIM world also work for the same reason.

Give EE a call or better still go in to am EE store.
