I've just bought a used N9005 and I've used it a little to check all is well and now I want to root it and unlock the sim so that I can use it here in England
It appears that since the phone was updated to 4.4.2 I can no longer use Chainfire's Regionlockaway app. I've spent a couple of hours searching and I can't seem to find any working options to remove the sim lock. It's currently locked to EE. I've put in a T-Mobile sim and everything works fine but I'm using the 3 network and it won't work. I looked on ebay and the codes are around £16 ($25)!
It's currently running N9005XXUGNG1 and everything seems to be stock.
I thought about downgrading to 4.3 but then that seems to be scuppered by the latest bootloader not letting you use Odin to go back, but there is a workaround that could enable me to go back to Jellybean - could I use chainfire's app then?? This would be a last resort as I've read of a few people encountering problems when using this method to drop back to 4.3.
In the meantime I'm going to have a look into the best (and safest - had some issues with the rooting process on both my HD2 and S3 a few years back!) way of rooting it.
By the way, this is my first post on the Note 3 forum after moving up from the S3, so please be gentle!
