Help Is there anything I can do to restore my phone?!

Hi all,

In desperate need of some help / advice. A little over a week ago my daughter kindly threw my nexus 4 on the floor and smashed the screen up pretty good. The phone itself was still working, just that the screen was completely unresponsive. After some consideration I went to get the screen replaced last weekend and as I'm sure you know, these don't come cheap.

Have you read this (long) thread?

Seems to offer several possible solutions for your problem; simply leaving it connected to a good charger for a few hours works for many people.

I tried their '24 hr helpline' last night only to be told they now close at 9pm (??!)

That brings back a memory from many decades ago when we routinely had shoes repaired rather than buying new. When the assistant told me to come back next week I pointed out a sign that read "Shoes repaired while you wait."

"That's right", he said, "you wait until next week."

thanks for this - I think that may well have been one of the ones I looked at briefly last night.

Have to say, I'm not overly confident about getting right into the inner workings of the phone. Has anyone else tried, and is there much potential to make things worse (although not really sure what's worse than the current situation, other than taking a sledgehammer to it)? I think I'll speak to Google, see what they have to say and take it from there. Thanks for the help though, much appreciated

sorry, I should add that I kept it on a charger overnight (the one that came with the phone) and nothing happened

There are several videos on Youtube on what to try next, assuming you tried a different known good charger and cable... this is likely a battery issue, either the battery got so low it can't take a charge or the connection is bad. Just google up "fix dead nexus" or "nexus red light of death" on Youtube and you will likely find your answer.

If you are not comfortable taking your phone apart, perhaps you should send it off to a reputable repair house.
