Help just got my SKYROCKET do u think i should return it for the S3?

Newbie
Hey guys,

i just got my skyrocket 2 weeks ago and i hear that S3 should be in the states in 2 weeks or something... what do u think, should i return it and wait for the new S3? cuz i will b stuck for 2 years with it :)

The main 3 points that make me kinda hesitant to return it is:
1- Skyrocket will support ICS which makes it get all the new cool features the S3 has.
2- AT&T will NOT release the S3 with the quad core processor because of the LTE support and will replace it with a dual core processor which again makes no huge difference i think
3- I got my Skyrocket for $60 and i believe the S3 will not be less than $150? is it worth the difference or i can live happily with the Skyrocket? :D

i really need your input as i have 7 days to return my phone and i want to take a decision.... thanks a lot

I don't think Gs3 will be released very soon. But, t's totally up to you. If I were you, I would return it. ;)

It's hard to say when AT&T will release it. It could be a month away or more. The International version isn't even out yet.

OK but are my points vaild? can u give me strong argument to wait for the S3? like help me with good reasons why to return the sky rocket and wait for the S3? :D and u ddnt say if the SR will have all the features of the S3 ICS

thanks ;)

You are misinformed on a few points.

The main 3 points that make me kinda hesitant to return it is:
1- Skyrocket will support ICS which makes it get all the new cool features the S3 has. No it won't. It won't have smart stay, S-Voice, the new camera features, the new gestures (such as double tapping the back of the phone to scroll to the top of a list, or waving in front of the screen to take a screenshot), the new wallpaper or Touchwiz features, such as the enhanced settings widgets in the notification bar.
2- AT&T will NOT release the S3 with the quad core processor because of the LTE support and will replace it with a dual core processor which again makes no huge difference i think There will be a big difference. The Snapdragon S4 is an awesome processor, and is comparable to Tegra 3 which is a quad core processor. There is unlikely to be a massive difference in performance.
3- I got my Skyrocket for $60 and i believe the S3 will not be less than $150? is it worth the difference or i can live happily with the Skyrocket? That's up to you.

My responses are in bold.

It depends on what you need and want in phone. If you want the absolutely best performance and all the latest features, you should wait for GSIII.

Skyrocket has older generation dual core (s3 snapdragon) vs new generation dual core (S4 krait) in GSIII for US. Don't care too much about quad vs dual. Processor design and feature size matters more than number of cores. GSIII with new dual core will easily blow away SR in performance almost twice faster.

And Skyrocket won't support all the new features of GSIII even after ICS upgrade. It will support some of them but it doesn't have NFC and some new sensors in GSIII that will enable new features like S-beam, smart stay, etc.

thanks a lot for your clarifications now i'm starting to figure it out... last 2 questions and i know there is no definite answer for them, the price range and the release date
i've been following this issue for days now so i have rumors all the place and i can't know who's BSing and who's correct, so from your point of' view and what's out there what's the expected price range and the release date? I know for example that the new iphone comes out at $200/$300 each time... whats the figures for the samsung?

thanks man

Usually the new samsungs hit at&t at $250. But thats just a guess right now. I figure amazon and others will have it around the $200 mark.

Also one thing others forgot to mention is the S3 also has the 720p HD screen which the skyrocket doesnt.

If it was me I would take the skyrocket back and wait. So at least you can compare them before making your decision.

Waiting a month is nothing when your going to be signing for 2 years.

Can't they at least increase the Ram? This and maybe the fruit phone may be the only true "upgrade" choices if this one come to Verizon. They will not allow people like me to keep unlimited data if I don't upgrade sometime this summer. I have a Rezound now and love it, but I can't see upgrading to something not noticeably better, none of which exist on my network right now. I've never owned a Galaxy, and honestly felt the touchwiz buttons on the bottom were ugly, but with ICS now they are better.

Galaxy S phones are very good performers and customization is not at all a problem (obviously because they're Android). You could very easily change the appearance to make the overlay look any way you wanted it to, while having a powerhouse of a phone. TouchWiz is not something you're bound to, by any stretch.

In fact, I've never rooted my Galaxy S1, yet my phone's overlay looks nothing like TouchWiz.

thanks everyone for your input i'll back my phone up and copy all the data on it then erase and reset it and off it goes back to amazon :D
