Root keep root after OTA?

is there a surefire way of doing this?

i see apps like "ota root keeper" and super su has a box to save root, but do they really work?

we just got an ota on the commando, and i know root is important to alot of us.

Have you updated? How did it go if so? If not, don't. I have big problems. Downloaded & backed up root with rootkeeper. Downloaded the update and let it go. Phone won't boot past white VZW screen. I can force it to successfuly reboot with ADB, but then it wipes the phone and l have to start over. But, during setup it locks up and won't reboot without the above process.

Yeah, that's exactly why I froze mobilecare asap... I have not even considered updating , I love root lol. uggghhh. I hope you get your shit to boot! I'm debating trying to flash the cwm posted around lately

If you still have adb, why don't you try adb shell with root privileges and then to flash cwm recovery from adb?
If you have lost root try to use unlockrootpro from your pc. Since you can adb it, unlockrootpro will see your device.

motumdo,

Once I get it to boot I can leave the setup wizard, sign into the market and get flashify & reflash the CMW recovery. Unfortunately I did not store my backups on the external SD card, so they are gone. If you have a backup could you please put them on your google drive so I can DL them?

There's someone on the main page looking for a backup of new ROM. I have and have offered the OTA. I assume (hope) they are going to make an update.zip for us.

Doctoror has posted a C811 nandroid backup along with his initialization tools, cwm and root zip files. You could try his nandroid. But first at all you should have cwm.
Have you been able to restore cwm?

Last time around I forgot to turn on USB debugging so I'm kind of screwed. Someone in another post said they could help so we shall see.

i havent yet flashed CWM, or the OTA yet. it is my impression after flashing cwm i will have trouble with the update anyway..

id like to have a stock rom image to go back to if the update failss though.

I posted up the OTA, couple of guys say they are going to make an update.zip. That will work for the CWM recovery.

Now if there can be a simple way to get CWM installed into the Commando 4G. I'll be happy. Holding off on the OTA since I am rooted and modified the system files for the GSM incoming call / programming menu app tweak.

Download Flashify from the store. There is no easier way unless it just came that way. Even if the elusive update.zip is unrooted once you have CWM recovery you can just flash root.

I've got flashily however not sure how to install CWM on via the app.

Download CWM to your SD card. Remember where you put it. Open flashify, select that you want to flash an image. Select the past where it is and then select it. When it asks if you want to do this tell it yes and it will do all the work. That's it.

Thanks if you don't mind....where can I get CWM from?

With flashify you can make your own backup of the stock recovery and kernel if you like.

Finally got recovery installed. Pain in the ever loving a$$!

However I still need a nandroid / cwm backup from another Commando 4G to restore to mine. Then Once a update.zip is released at a later date update to 4.1.2 via CWM, then I'll take the plunge to JB.

Get Doctoror's, that's what I have and the only issue I have is the bastard baseband which won't be a problem for you, nandroids don't mess with the baseband. Just don't go flashing that 410 initialization tool or you'll be here with me, waiting on some kind soul to create a update.zip

Yeah I'm running stock 4.0.4. I've got CWM but that's it. I don't want to mess with the radio/ baseband. I'm gonna wait for the update .zip. However the radio and baseband will have to be updated at some point with 4.1.2...

That should be a flash that will have the baseband update included in the package. Otherwise it won't work.
