LG: Optimus 2X not getting Gingerbread update

Just got off from speaking with customer support with LG Canada, they're telling me now they have no plans for the Gingerbread upgrade now and are going to just skip to ICS instead (god knows how long that will take, maybe another year)

The person you were talking to at LG does not know what they're talking about. I live in Richmond Hill, ON. I have updated to 2.3.4 via LG canada's website.

How did you do that?
It doesn't seem to work for me. Every time I try to update it tells me I already have the latest version.

This is the same problem for me, and I did install all four drivers. But is there anyway to tell if you didn't, just in case? LG is so complicated...

Sorry, I don't know what else to suggest. I agree it's frustrating how there way of upgrading firmware is so complicated.

:)

LG has developed a new User Interface (UI) for some of our NAS devices. Installing the new UI is not required, you may continue using the current UI. When updating to the new UI, the NAS will be reformatted. This includes all user data. If you want to upgrade to New Platform UI, you must backup all your data to another device before updating

[Notice 2] Firmware improvements are limited for the previous UI.

Firmware updates for the previous UI will cease December 2011.
We strongly recommend you to upgrade your firmware to the new UI.
Starting January 2012, firmware updates will only support the new UI.

Don't ever buy the LG Optimus 2x, support for Android upgrade is terrible! Bought the phone in Batam, Indonesia and tried to upgrade the software while in Singapore. The LG IT "smart staff" tells me they don't know the consequence of upgrading and I've got to bear all risks of phone breakdown and I've still got to pay them S$25 for the service. And this is the official LG service center! I ask them how come they don't know their own phones and they draw a blank! In the end I could not assume the risk and left.

LG - CUSTOMERS THINK YOU ARE SHIT!

LG - CUSTOMERS THINK YOU ARE SHIT!

- Of course, saying this, on an Android Forum where LG Employees will probably not be, deems extremely effective. Rant on their site about who's shit and who's not and not here.

- Here is where LG's Canada update is. The trouble with it is the fact that even if you get this, LG doesn't have Wind Mobile support. Even if you manually pull this off via you-know-what, Wind's version ranks higher on the food chain because of tactical updates to their Froyo stock. Sucks to be us until LG decides to throw Wind Mobile onto our device support radars.

Sadly, we'll be seeing LG bring 4.0 to these phones. Whether Wind Canada jumps on or not is still undecided unless their tech support actually can vouch for something that should be basic knowledge to them.

A little bit frustated...!!! When I bought my phone in september, the big sellor argument was that an update (Gingerbread), was suppose to be release in november, or maybe MAXIMUM december.. WoW, not that the phone is sold, the sellor is happy, that's all he wanted, just to sell the phone !! Now the newer android version (Icecream) is release, and We are stuck with Froyo !! If I had known THAT BIG PROBLEM, I never had BOUGHT this bull***** !! Now, what can we do, if my phone company (Fido) and the company of my phone (LG), either don't know when a release of newer version will be available for LG Optimus 2x P990 ??? Telecommunication in Canada is very poor...... Now I'm sad to having reffered my friends to by the same phone as mine. Now they're all frustated too !!

Well it looks like the guy I spoke with had no idea what he was talking about because the 2.3 update is now available for fido 2x users
