Root Looking for custom ROMs

Just purchased a refurb N7 (2012) 32Gb

Very comfortable with rooting/etc, just wondering what ROMs are out there that are well liked, and well maintained/updated.

I plan on doing the following soon after receipt:

1) installing TWRP
2) Rooting
3) Nandroid Backup
5) trying out other ROMs

Please give links :)

Yeah I have used the Franco kernels on my Nexus 5 phone, it works great. Glad to know that ART works well on this slightly older Nexus tablet too.

when i have time i plan on creating some baseless ports ie: paranoid ,dirty unicorns etc.. that can just be flashed over cm or aosp roms. that way the end user can choose the base rom for the port. as opposed to prebuilt ports. benefits also include the ability to use the port when an update to your rom of choice is released without me having to rebuild the entire port.

I'm loving Validus by Ground Zero Roms. I have their latest on Box if you want a link

If you have a link for that it would be cool. Just got my N7 this evening, got it unlocked/rooted/TWRP'd, doing a backup before I start playing :)

Uploading now mate. Must have deleted it.
I forgot to ask, is it the wifi only (grouper) Nexus 7 you have?

Also ROM manager and ROM installer both support the grouper and have just about every ROM and make it easy to d/l and install
You can also use multirom manager to install multiple ROMs at once so you could stay stock while trying out other ROMs 😀

I wish I hadn't been foolish enough to get the 3G version of the Nexus 7 (2012) as it seems to have very few ROM choices

that's where baseless ports will come in handy because it will work on either model. you would use talapia cm or grouper cm as a base and just flash the port over it. i'm going to start on a liquid smooth baseless today. it's fairly easy really. you just put all the files that you would normally add to the base to port it, into a flashable all by themselves. basically i could just take the grouper ls and remove all the files except the ls files and edit the updater script so that it doesn't format and viola ls for talapia.

ART was causing force closes
ART is still experimental. i don't use it. Dalvic works just fine for me.

gaaah so many choices *brain explodes*

Thanks for the links, will check them all out, I should def set up MultiRom!

Currently running Tamasek's Unofficial CM, looks good, but need to check out the others!

PS I just have the Wireless only N7

ART is excellent on my N7 and s3.im a big fan of it on older devices. The n7 is very impressive running in ART. I think it's just broken on LS i9300 latest build :) 🎨

I stopped using Tamasek's when he removed Slim Pie but other than that it's a great rom

Boy, I wish I hadn't been foolish enough to get the 3G version of the Nexus 7 (2012) as it seems to have very few ROM choices. I am pretty happy with Slim Kat. However, just last week a new ROM popped up for me that looks interesting so I'm gearing up for a Multi-ROM trial this weekend.

[ROM][AOSP][KK][05/05] **C-RoM** -4.4.2- -v6.3... - xda-developers

Anyone know anything about C-ROM?

Just took a quick look at this on Multi-ROM last night. So far I like it. It almost looks like an unofficial Dirty Unicorns build. Will test it for stability over the weekend.

Decided to stay with Slimkat, which I'm really liking a lot and is very smooth and stable. C-ROM is worth watching, but it is rough around the edges and not entirely stable. For now my tablet does what I want and is stable and likely, I'll be thinking of upgrading by 2015, so I think I'll just sit things out. Slimkat is a great ROM and I'm getting lazier about resetting everything up. ;)
