Help make calls with bionic thru wifi

have verizon service but no cell service at vacation home, have wifi hotspot. want to use bionic to make calls using wifi. want the simplest solution. what is the best solution ? Skype?
 
sorry for posting under "... root". know what root directory is on computer but have no idea what "root" refers to on phone. have reviewed articles regarding apps. have been told that there is a piece of hardware that plugs into router and operates like a mini verizon tower and does not require installing an app on the phone... is this a myth?

Not a myth. I have one at my vacation home, actually. It works great, as long as you have true broadband. It can support four calls at a time (i.e., four Verizon customers at your home can make calls.) The range is not fantastic, so when you get or want to make a call, move closer to the device.

It's called the Verizon Network Extender. (I think this is the link to it: Verizon Wireless - Network Extender - Get More Information )

Kind of pricey, but worth it to me and my family...
 
Yes, at $250, it is a little pricey but looks like the perfect solution. Vacation home is on a lake in NC mountains and there are a lot of dead spots for both SirusXM radio and navigation, so the need for a GPS signal (for 911 support) is of some concern. Already have 911 support from landline. May try software solution (Skype, other apps) first.

I'm on a lake as well, in NH, surrounded by trees and a hill right behind us, but the extender is about 7 feet from the nearest window and it holds the GPS signal perfectly. The extender's GPS antenna comes with a long (I think 25') cord, which is optional, so you can move the antenna to a window and run the wire to it.

Again, the device is great. So long as DSL stays up (we get about 7 Mbps download speed), the extender works.

Had HughesNet Gen4 (10Mbps download) satellite internet for 3 months - 100% satisfied. GPS probably not a problem with or without extension antenna, so will procede with the extender.

Simply get a Google Voice number if you don't already have one, enable Chat for routing calls then buy the App called Spare Phone. You can then make and receive calls over wifi. I use it over seas to save money.
 
I travel a lot for work in and out of the country. I recently discovered the Magic Jack app for cell phones. It allows me to call any U.S. or Canadian phone number and they can call me too. The voice clarity is pretty good and there is not much of a voice delay. I love it so far. It is FREE. The only catch is that if you don't already have a Magic Jack account for your home, it will assign you a Magic Jack phone number that starts and ends with a "*" (star).
