Help Manual ICS upgrade for Maxx?

Hey guys, I have heard of someone upgrading their Maxx to 4.0 through a manual process, but I cannot remember where I saw the reference, nor can I find a link to how to do it.

Can someone supply a link or some info? Got my Maxx, and I'm ready to do the deed... thanks...

Hum ok. Just talked to a rep who told me that ICS would be an auto update here in the U.S. fairly soon... anyone else heard this? Thanks...

It would be possible to manually update to ICS, as noted above. But that is anything but an "official" release, and could result in a bricked phone if you screw up.

Personally, I'm waiting for Verizon's official release.

I think the possibility of bricking is a bit over blown. If you follow the directions and aren't reckless the actual rooting and flashing process is pretty safe. However the roms are still works in progress, not everything is working and if you aren't willing to deal with software that's still in the testing phase you are better off stearing clear

I want to root my phone, will probably avoid using any ROMS, at least until I get a better understanding. But my main concern is rooting my phone and that results in some type of issue when the ICS upgrade finally does come out.

Does anyone know if it would actually cause any issues or I am safe to root my phone, avoid ROMs, and still get a clean ICS upgrade?

As long as you stay stock, and don't delete anything you will still be able to follow the official upgrade path

Thanks 330D. So even if I removed some of the crap like all the verizon aps I will never use, I'll still run into issues with the OTA for ICS?

You can only remove the apps that let you remove them WITHOUT being rooted via "Uninstall". If you root and start deleting things, it could turn ugly. I would just freeze what you don't want with Titanium Backup. That way when the time comes, you can just defrost everything and be back to factory like status.
