Help MAXX HD is getting S-L-O-W....

I have a stock unrooted Droid Razr Maxx HD running 4.1.2. It has been getting slower opening apps, to the point of getting the "<app> is not responding. Do you want to close it or wait?" message on a regular basis, especially when going to Mail. If I go to the Phone app and click on a number to call, it takes at least 7 seconds before dialing. I also have to reboot the phone at least a couple times every week, as it locks up.

I use Memory Cleaner and App Cache Cleaner regularly, but that doesn't make any difference that I can tell. My daughter says that her Maxx HD is also messing up for her.

My 2-yr contract with Verizon is up on Oct 20th, and at this point when that date comes I'll be using this thing for target practice. Battery life is still fantastic, but so what? Phone is practically useless!

Anybody else experiencing anything similar?

Back up what matters to you then do a factory data reset (FDR). This cleared up some slowness problems I had a while back. I made sure to uninstall any not-used apps first so they wouldn't re-download. Also make sure Verizon cloud services aren't slowing you down.

The phone hasn't gotten inherently any slower... some app(s) are bogging you down.

Before doing the Factory Data Reset you could try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them). If the problem stops it was caused by an app that you added ... find out which one. If it doesn't then the Factory Data Reset is your nest step.

I actually went through ALL my apps last night while watching the Red Sox game on TV. I "Cleared Data" on almost every app and it is like LIGHTNING right now. I'm same as you, Unrooted/stock Maxx HD. I also went into "Developer Options" in settings (As I saw on Boygeniusreport.com), turned on the options and Moved my "Window Animation, Transition animation, Animator scales" to ".5x" from "1x". You will see a change in speed INSTANTLY! make sure you change to ".5" and not "5x"

Hope it works!

Good tip, definitely seeing a difference

Thanks! Can you tell me which apps (or type of apps) where you *didn't* clear data? For example, AppStore - clear data, or no?

Just was picking and choosing really. Ones I didn't feel like clearing to be honest. I'm sure I'll go back and do them as well.

I tried that and it does seem to be a little faster, but I'm still having trouble with the phone app. For instance, I go into "Recent", pick a number and then hit "Call (###) ###-####". It takes from 5-7 seconds before it actually makes the call. It just seems that it should be practically instantaneous.

Even after FDR, my phone was still slow as anything with very limited app re-install. Just moved to the S4, but miss my Droid Razr Maxx HD. Hoping KitKat comes and fixes some of the slowness soon!

This is what finally worked. I sat down last night with the phone and rebooted into Safe Mode. The phone was back to running fast, so I deleted all of the apps that I had downloaded and rebooted again. Phone was still running fast, so I went over the list of apps and edited it down to the stuff I was actually using. I added them back one by one, and I *think* the culprit is the Silhouette Live Wallpaper. It started acting up again when I re-installed that, so I got rid of it again and just put up a static pic for wallpaper.

It's still acting fast today, so far so good. If it stays like this then I'll have no problem using it for a while longer. Thing is... my wife and I stopped at a Verizon store over the weekend and I got to try out a Galaxy S5. Wow, that thing is *really* fast! I can upgrade my Razr Maxx HD to an S5 via Amazon for $99.99, I just don't know if that will start another 2 year contract. If it does I'll just wait until my contract is done in October and then re-visit the S5.

At any rate, the Razr Maxx HD is back to being fully functional, much thanks to all the help offered here! :)

Live wallpapers are notorius for eating up battery life and causing slow downs.

Also, using a lot of widgets can cause the same issue as well.

My RAZR HD run's pretty darn fast under stock, whether rooted or not.

The dialer for me has always seemed a bit slow but this is not a deal breaker for me. I do not seem to be at 5-7 seconds but I do see about 1-2 seconds. The tip for changing over to 0.5 though does speed things up a bit.

I converted to Pixel Phone Pro two weeks ago. Someone FINALLY got an integrated phone app. You might want to give it a try and see if it makes a difference.
