maxx hd vs.....

I am looking to get a new phone. I have had a razr maxx for the past 2 years, and starting to have issues, plus want newer version of bt and newer os to use various sensors i use when working out...

I am on unlimited data, so I either pay full retail, or find one used on CL. Battery life of the maxx is great, but as long as I can get through the day with 30 min of call, 20 texts, and viewing email, I am happy...

I know this is a maxx hd forum so people will be biased, but if you were getting a phone right now, would you be looking at a maxx hd or a htc or samsung, and why? thanks.

No Motorola, no suggestions about what phone you should get, since I'm very biased. (And almost any decent phone will meet your battery requirements.) One word of caution, however.

If you buy from CL, have the transaction done in the carrier's store. Have the seller remove the phone from his account before you hand over the money. There's a very common CL scheme. The seller sells you the phone. Then he reports it stolen. His insurance covers it (with a little deductible), so he gets a new phone and your money. You get a blacklisted phone you can't use.

If the phone is no longer on his account, they won't accept a stolen phone report from him about that phone.

I love my Moto X. I had a Razr HD prior, very happy I switched.

Another buying option is Swappa, it's a bit 'safer' than CL. I've used it many times with no issues.

I really like my maxx hd, but would love to upgrade to the new htc one m8, love the build quality, size, screen res, speed etc plus it has an sd card which the og one did not...

My girlfriend just bought the Droid Maxx with KitKat. In general it is faster then the Maxx HD but similar in many respects. The camera is much faster and better. Notifications when asleep are different, instead of a LED light flashing slowly when you have a call or text, it dimly shows up in the screen every 5 seconds or so. This function, the Active Display, has to be programmed in. When awake it still has the icons at the top left but some have to be programmed in vs automatically having them as on the HD. More options, so as long as you are comfortable with learning how they are programmed it is fine. In summary an improvement but not greatly so.

The other thing too though is we eventually will be getting Kit Kat which may then even lessen the improvement of getting the newer version. Hopefully that will be sometime this month too.

I converted from the Bionic to the Maxx and agree that there is minor performance improvement between the Razr Maxx HD and the Droid Maxx.

One thing that is new and sets the Maxx (and Moro X) apart from the others is Touchles Control (AKA OK Google Now). I trained my Maxx to OK Droid Now and the kickoff phrase is "OK Droid" like "OK Droid weather" and "OK Droid what's up".

The difference is one of 8 cores dedicated to listening for me to ask something ... always. Typing away and I ask "OK Droid weather" to check on it. In the car and a little lost ... "OK Droid go home" and it gives me step-by-step navigation instructions.

The other thing is wireless charging. I got the TYLT charger that holds the Maxx at a 45 degree angle and it is very convenient.

My previous phone was a RAZR MAXX HD and I really liked it a lot. Sure, it had a few limitations and quirks here and there, but I'm all about the battery once you get spoiled with that kind of battery life, it's hard to go back.

So when it came time for a new phone I limited myself to candidates with long battery life. That narrowed it way down! I ended up going with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and let me tell you - WOW. What a great phone.

Highly recommended.
