Root [Merit] Connecting to Windows 8

Hey guys. I just got a new laptop with Windows 8. I have to say that even though I'm not a big fan of Micro$oft, I do like this particular release of Windows.

However... It seems that my Merit ZTE Z990G is not being recognized by Windows. I have it plugged in via usb and it charges fine but the phone never asks me if I want to enable usb storage. I don't know why or what drivers I need to download to fix this but I would really like to redo my rom on my phone and can't with this PC.

Some info about my phone:

Model: Merit ZTE Z990G
Rom: Stayboogy's Blue Steel v2.0.777
PC OS: Windows 8

If anyone else has this issue or hasn't had the issue for that matter, please let me know. Thanks.

if you pull down your notification bar, does it say usb connected? if so, you should be able to tap that notification and a screen will appear where you can enable usb storage.

I was gonna say upgrade back to Win7 but if you like 8, more power to ya (I'm a linux guy personally). As for having a device recognized, Microshaft introduced driver signature verification, making third-party drivers harder to install (It is possible as I've seen people do it). As for going about this install, I can't be much help.

No. The phone never recognizes the fact that it's plugged into the PC it just charges as if it is plugged into a power outlet.

Personally, I have always been a Linux guy. However, recently I have been using Windows 7 and I had a laptop lent to me that is running Windows 8. Based on my current situation in life, this is my only option to redo my phone.

use this driver, it works like a charm on Windows 8

Not to sound like a nervous prick or anything but that file seems just a little bit shady to me. I don't want to download a random exe file that could potentially contain a virus on this computer that I have borrowed from someone.

Any other suggestions guys?

I know dealing with .exe files is a pain especially with viruses, but if I wasn't 100% sure that file is clean I wouldn't have posted it in first place. But am ok if you don't want to use :)

Windows is all .exe so what's the matter? Just sketched about it not being an official driver?

I know Windows is all exe files. I just didn't like the lack of info on the file. I did however take a look at some of the posts micallan has made and determined that they are legit and not just someone posting spam. I will download it and install. I'll then let you guys know if it works. Thanks for the help in the meantime.

Yeah as i said, i would never put risky files on the forum, ever. all the files o usually post are legit and tested by me and are free of viruses. It is against the rules of this forum to even post such risky files. hope the file is able to help you out.

Cheers
