Root [Merit] ZTE z990g Merit , Internal Space, SD card, Rooting

Two days ago I purchased the ZTE z990g Merit (Straight Talk- AT&T)

Well after doing the updates to the phone for programs already installed on the system, I get the dreaded " Internal space is low" message..

After talking to Straight Talk tech support I was told to uninstall all updates and turn off auto updates...Ummmm ok ? And this is my only solution? She informed me, that any updates to a program that comes installed on the phone will only go to internal memory and not my SD card.... OK? I have tried moving programs to my SD card and that option is grayed out, I have also downloaded a few new apps on my phone just to see if I could put them on my SD card....Ummmmm again that option is grayed out.(Shouldn't I be able to move my downloaded things such as pictures, music and programs to my SD card?) Heck I might as wll take out the SD card it just sitting there empty!

I have been reading all your threads about rooting and that seems like my only option, but for the life of me I can't seem to grasp what to do, Is there anyone out there that can walk me through this step by step in dummy terms? lol

I am almost ready to put this thing on airplane mode and fling it in the air!

Any HELP would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

You will need to root the phone and use the link2sd to gain the needed space.

you can also root unstall all the safe to remove apps and reinstall them you will gain 60 megs of needed space.

I would love to root, seems like it would solve my issue but like I said, I don't understand how to do it...
 
You need to install the "Android Developer Kit" for one thing.

If using a regular PC, download and install this: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r20.0.3-windows.zip

If using a Mac, download and install this: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r20.0.3-macosx.zip

If you're running Linux, here's your file: http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r20.0.3-linux.tgz

Get that done and then we can move forward. After you root, you'll be able to do anything you want on your phone. Transfer photos, mp3's or other files to your phone, remove factory apps that you don't want, etc.

Thank you so much for helping me :-) OK that is downloaded, waiting on you :-)
 
You'll be using "ADB Commands" to root your phone. We'll need to see if ADB is installed and working. I believe it is part of the ASDK that you just installed. (It's been a while since I rooted)

You need to go into your phones' menu to Settings/Applications/Development. Check the box that says 'USB Debugging'.

You can also plug up your usb cable after that.
 
I'll be copying and pasting from another site. I think it would be easier this way and less overwhelming than if I gave you a bunch of instructions all at once. I'll wait for your acknowledgement after each "transaction" before proceeding, to make sure the commands are carried out on your end with no problems.If you encounter problems just say so and we'll figure a way through it.

  • Press Win + R on your keyboard to bring up the Run dialog.
  • Once the Run box is open, type in sysdm.cpl and hit OK
 
Do you have "My Computer" on your desktop? I need to know the exact name of the folder that the ASDK was installed in, in the C drive. Do you know how to find that info? Not trying to be insulting....just don't know your skill level.
 
OK, assuming that you're using Windows Vista, right-click on your desktop and select "Personalize".

When the window pops up, in the upper left, select "Change desktop icons".

When THAT window pops up, check the box that says "Computer".

Then collapse all the windows and double-click "Computer on your desktop.

Double-click "C:"

Is there a folder there with SDK in it?
