Root [MetroPCS] Finally made my rooted unlocked MetroPCS F6 to work with Isis Wallet

Warning: this guide/mod was tested ONLY ON THE STOCK ROM. If you try it on other ROMs, you are on your own

Warning: this guide/mod will NOT work on hroark13 port of KitKat 4.4.2. Investigating what can be done.

New and updated guide is here. QRemote WORKS and Isis works as well with those settings, thanks to the contribution from the user FlyingBoat.
First question, why bother?

Well, Isis Wallet is very very far from perfect. However, there are several promotions going on right now which could make the phone to pay for itself in no time, check it out there: https://www.paywithisis.com/

Now, only Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are on the list of participating providers.
There are just a few phones supported as well, T-Mobile F6 is among them.
So the MetroPCS F6 needs to be unlocked first in order to use it on T-Mobile.
I am not going to go into the details of the unlocking, nor encourage you to do so, you can stop reading right here if you wish.

Note: it is no longer illegal in the US to unlock your phone regardless of your carrier, thanks to the law signed by President Obama.

Now, the challenges:
Isis Wallet does not work on rooted phones. Lol, I never had the phone I did not root.
So here is what worked for me:
- download and install Xposed framework installer, install it.

the link is here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer

- download and install Xposed module RootCloak (not RootCloak Plus!) and enable it in Xposed;
- add Isis to the list of the apps in RootCloak, reboot.

Now Isis doesn't see root on your phone.

But it does not like your device, that's the problem.

Go to /System, find buld.prop edit it with your favorite Text Editor, replace those two lines, and those two lines only:
ro.product.model=LGMS500
ro.product.brand=MetroPCS

with

ro.product.model=LG-D500
ro.product.brand=lge
ro.build.fingerprint=lge/f6_tmo_us

Save, Reboot, enjoy your Isis Wallet, don't forget to take advantage of the promotions :D!

Antutu is a good test tool of those tricks. If on the start screen it thinks that your device is T-Mobile D500, you are good to go.

Attention AT&T folks: according to post #51 in this thread the guide will work for you too if you use

ro.product.model=LG-D801

I haven't tested it myself because I don't have AT&T service.

OLD GUIDE:
WARNING: This mod breaks QuickRemote app. The QuickRemote will NOT work w/modified build.prop. The damn thing checks for the carrier. why I do not know, can't even imagine the reason.

not applicable anymore. Use New Guide.

Do you change the followings?

ro.product.brand=MetroPCS

no, it is not necessary.
Two lines mentioned above are good enough for Isis to work.

Exactly what I am trying to do today. Sorry this is so basic, but I can't figure it out. How do I get the changes to Build.prop to stick? I have downloaded Build.Prop editor, make the changes, choose to reboot, but then it comes up as the original. I have a TM brightspot F6 as well, so I am able to compare the two to see how some of these values are labeled. Also don't understand the editors. In the Build.Prop editor, I can't even search on MetroPCS and come up with anything, it doesn't search the values.

FYI, the Brightspot F6 has the fingerprint statement above as "fingerprint=lge/f6_tmo_us/f6:4.1.2/JZO54K/MS50010i.1385078099:user/release-keys"

You don't need BuildProp editor, or anything fancy.
I used just ES File Explorer built-in text editor and it worked.
- mount /System as R/W in ES File Explorer;
- open build.prop in ES FM Text Editor
- choose Menu-Edit
- do your changes;
-click Back button, it will ask whether you want to save the changes, choose Yes :)
- reboot;
- Start Antutu;
- if you see "T-Mobile D500" as your device in Antutu, you are good to go;

If that doesn't work, I have couple of aces behind my sleeve :D Lemmeno.

Ah, got it to work! Thanks! It was the mount R/W part I was missing. (first time I have done a root, and it looks like ES FM has changed appearance a bit from help pages I find on the internet.)

At least I got it to the point where I can load ISIS. Haven't tried it for a purchase yet.

My son smuggled 5 of these MetroPCS F6's into Minnesota for me, LOL. So it will be nice to be able to use them for the ISIS promos with Wells Fargo, etc.

Congrats.

But BE CAREFUL. The QuickRemote will NOT work w/modified build.prop. The damn thing checks for the carrier. why I do not know, can't even imagine the reason.
Put this warning into the original post as well.

Remember, you can only have one Isis account per phone number and only one WF credit card can be added to one phone number/account. If you already added one cc to one account, you cannot add it to the second account.

but if you got 5 phone numbers and 5 WF cc you can make $1100 out of this promotion - easy. it lasts until April 30, 2014, according to WF.

Right, I have 5 phones and numbers on a family plan (adult children). Only one WF CC in hand. Three other accounts approved and hoping the cards arrive before the end of the month. Will also do a Serve card with direct deposit for $50 each along with the $25 TM bonus.

I picked up these F6's for what looks to be $79 by going through BeFrugal. They give 10% cashback for MetroPCS. They show it as $20 CB per phone pending, so they must figure it on the $199 amount before the instant rebate. Perhaps it will be changed to $10 before the cash is paid out. Had them delivered to Son's hotel room while he was on vacation. They won't ship to MN. Needed to do 3 deliveries because they won't ship over $300 to an address different than CC, and they would do only 2 deliveries to a person, so 3rd delivery was to his last hotel to his wife's name.

As I mentioned before, I have a Brightspot F6 which works to load ISIS, it doesn't have the specifications you have, of

ro.product.model=D500
ro.product.brand=T-Mobile

It has

ro.product.model=LG-D500
ro.product.brand=lge

That is what I put in on my Metro phones, and with that could load and log into ISIS. I also changed the fingerprint to ro.build.fingerprint=lge/f6_tmo_us to match the BrightSpot F6 settings.

Maybe those settings would work with the remote? My DirecTV box is behind cabinets so I use RF and not I/R remote, so if this remote is I/R I wouldn't be using it anyway. I have downloaded and used DirecTV's remote which I used a couple of times in the past, so could use that if I needed to.

The point is whether QRemote is usable with any of those settings.
In my case it is not.
It would be great if you could test it on your modified settings. Should take no more than 5 minutes.

You gonna make like el bandito on those if you get your ccs on time. $800+5 very good phones for free. Good luck!

I tried it, and yes the remote works. As I said before I have DirecTV and it is set for WIFI, so that didn't work. But I just tried it now and it turned my TV off/on.

This is great news.

Tested your entries.

Both Isis Mobile Wallet and QRemote work with those settings.

Will change the guide according to the new info.

Without performing the steps below, I've gotten past the "rooted" problem when Isis loads. However, the app is now asking for an enhanced sim??!!

Questions:
1) Is modification of the build.prop file still necessary at this point since the app has gotten past the "rooted phone" issue?
2) If the answer is "yes", does modifying the build.prop file eliminate the need for me to use an enhanced sim or will it still be necessary? Note - I've already ordered one from Isis just in case it is.

What are the aces? ES won't let me save the file nor change permissions. phone is already rooted.
