Migrating to Nexus 6p

Guys.

Just opened up my brand new nexus 6p! Really excited!

Am migrating away from an HTC One M8. It's my first ever android-to-android migration.

Have been searching around for a single, comprehensive idiot's guide to migration. With little success.

Would be grateful if someone could share the simplest way to migrate everything. Contacts, sms, pictures, music, whatsapp, apps, the kitchen sink basically. I'm not very tech or android savvy.

Thanks in advance!

Previously, I copied all files from the old phone onto a new directory on my laptop, so that all files were saved in a safe place.
Once you activate it with your Google account, you should see all apps, contacts, calendar etc. automatically downloaded tp the new phone.
Then connect the new phone to the laptop with USB and copy the files wanted onto the new phone. A little time consuming but it worked for me.

When I got mine, it prompted me if I wanted to migrate stuff from my old phone to my new Nexus. I got most of my apps reinstalled. Contacts stored in your Google account will be automatically migrated over provided you use the same Google account. I didn't migrate anything else over. For music, I just reselected my songs as I wanted to change them anyway. Most of the photos I wanted would have been copied over to my PC. I didn't care for messages.
